We are approaching the season of giving! Gamma Iota Boulé Foundation, Incorporated is hosting its annual cultural food giveaway program, the 2023 Umoja Karamu: Dinner Giveaway and Black Unity Celebration. We welcome volunteers from the Greater Rochester community to support the community service endeavor.
We need a team of individuals to assist with the distribution of Umoja Karamu boxes. We will add 600 whole chickens and any leftover produce to 300 boxes of fresh food. We will ask cars to drive up to deliver food boxes in people's cars. We are excited when volunteers are able to deliver food to our elders in housing communities that may not be able to make it to the distribution locations.
About
Umoja Karamu (meaning, “unity feast”) was established in 1971 as a Black cultural celebration acknowledged during the fourth Sunday in November; often regarded as “the other Thanksgiving.” It is a ritual for the Black Family to create new meaning and solidarity through ceremony and symbolism.
