The Point In Time (PIT) count brings funding to Monroe County by providing an accurate, reliable count and survey of unsheltered homeless people at a particular point in time. The snapshot gets reported to HUD, providing the ability to see our needs as a community and assess the population’s characteristics to fund best-practice interventions in response to those characteristics.
The PIT is coordinated by Partners Ending Homelessness.
About the Volunteer Role:
Volunteers will receive training before the event. On the day of the PIT, volunteers will meet in one location to pick up supplies for the day. Then, small teams of volunteers will go out to different areas across the community, and provide personal care kits to homeless community members, and ask them to complete a brief survey. Volunteers will support with the survey tool as needed. Thank the individual, and continue canvassing the area - offering support, and free supplies across the community.
How to Volunteer:
After creating a Volunteer United account (top right-hand corner):
Step 1) Register for the 'Step 1 Volunteer Role' (green button).
- Save the date for September 26th from 5 am - 11 am.
- Keep an eye on your email for information about the required training.
Step 2) Register & attend a brief required online zoom training. You will receive more info about how to register for the zoom training via email. Training dates are:
- September Monday 12th, 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
- September Monday 19th, 11 am to Noon
- September Thursday 22nd from 10 am to 11 am
Step 3) After the training: Return to this website, and sign up for Step 3 Volunteer Roles, to choose your area - and team. You will NOT be able to sign up for the area until you complete Step 2 (the training).
