Description

Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for senior volunteers willing to lead courses in the National Diabetes Prevention Program's Prevent Type 2 Diabetes class series.  This can be done entirely remotely from your own home.  If you do not have a computer that can use Zoom Meetings, technology can be provided to you free of charge to allow you to run Zoom Meetings on one of Wayne CAP's devices with a camera and microphone.  All of the training will be provided to you online as well, and all materials and support that you will need to provide the course.  Our courses are run by teams of two volunteers, so you will always have someone there to help you either run the technology side or deliver the information that is all scripted and will be provided to you.  All you need is a willingness to help those seniors at risk or diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and Wayne CAP will provide the rest.

The courses last 9 months with one hour courses per week for three months, once every two weeks for the second three months, and once a month for the last 3 months. You will be able to set the schedule as it will work best for you and your co-leader, and shifting the schedule as needed is not a problem.  This course takes several months to complete because the focus is on making small changes to diet and activity in order to effectively make changes to one's lifestyle gradually over time.

Learn new skills, learn about new tools that will be useful to you in your own life as well as those seniors you serve, and meet new people!
