Who We Are

The Community Place of Greater Rochester, Inc.(CPGR) is a nonprofit agency founded on the belief that everyone should enjoy the same health, economic, and social opportunities no matter who they are or where they live.

Born from the merger of the Lewis Street Center, Genesee Settlement House and Eastside Community Center; The Community Place serves residents of Northeast Rochester. We deliver a wide range of social, developmental, and educational programs delivered through our facilities in the northeast sector of the city of Rochester (NY) and throughout the greater Rochester area. We are a leading neighborhood-based community center, providing a foundation for growth, empowerment and stability for those we serve.

The Community Place is proud to continue the legacy built by its former organizations and continue the settlement house movement in Rochester. We invite you to learn more about the programs and services we provide to the people of Rochester—from children and teenagers to families and seniors to individuals with developmentally disabilities.

What We Do

The Community Place has been an integral part of the Rochester community for over 100 years when its earliest predecessor was established. We help families meet their basic needs, promote health, wellness and education, enhance personal and social development, improve literacy, and build community. 10,000 individuals annually benefit from programs and services at CPGR.

We prepare our children and young adults for success in school and in life with programs from Universal Pre-Kindergarten and Foster Grandparents to after school programs that build student leaders.

Our Disability Services Program provides care and activities for young people with disabilities and much needed support for their families.

Family Services programs supply aid to people to meet basic needs and also help to build life skills and provide emergency services in times of financial crisis.

Our Aging Services programs run throughout Monroe and Livingston Counties. These programs include daily opportunities for socialization, nutrition, independent living and case management services. Our Foster Grandparents and Senior Companions are volunteers who help children succeed in school and assist frail elders so that they can remain in their homes.
Community Place activities focus on academic success, personal and social development, health/fitness and college/vocational preparation. All of our activities are aimed at building stronger neighborhoods, a stronger community and a stronger Rochester.
