I would need up to 15 volunteers to weed our Town Park, and the south side of the Town Hall building and spreading mulch. We will also have projects to sand and paint picnic tables and paint some walls.

Keep our pool area fresh by painting the pump floor. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Paint the curb by the bus circle. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.

If you are passionate about downtown Rochester and want to make a difference in fostering its health and vibrancy, we have opportunities for you to help! We're looking for volunteers who want to contribute by cleaning up litter, planting flowers, painting benches, or even playing instruments if that's your thing ;-)

As part of our mission to activate public spaces downtown, we are looking for individuals who would like to donate their time to play chess at beautiful St. Joseph's Park. We will set you up with a table and chess board (if needed). You just take on anyone who wishes to play!

This initiative is a way to bring community together and engage with others, while energizing a park with activity and fun. Young, old or in-between are invited to participate. You pick the day and the time... even an hour is welcome, but 2-4 hours is preferred.

No special chess talent is needed... as long as you know the basic rules you're good to go!

Ever wanted to parlay your musical skills into being a street performer? Always wondered what it would be like to be a "busker" for a day?

As part of our mission to activate public spaces downtown, we are looking for individuals who would like to donate their time to play an instrument for an hour or three at a downtown park.

This initiative is a way to bring community together and engage with others, while energizing a park with activity and fun. Young, old or in-between are invited to participate. You pick the day and the time... even an hour is welcome, but 2-4 hours is preferred.

You don't need to be "world-class"... as long as you love playing you're exactly who we want! Bring a friend or two along too!

Ideal instruments include guitar (electric or acoustic), fiddle, violin (or any string instrument), saxophone, harmonica, bagpipes, or keyboard.

We need a yard clean up and trimming of small branches

On May 21, alongside the Erie Canal, we will be cleaning kayaks and cycles, checking for maintenance needs, pumping up tires, and cleaning & sprucing up the area where they are stored.

How Your Help Impacts People’s Lives:

Most people do not need to think about what recreational opportunities are available for them because almost everything is an option. You wake up on a Saturday morning and say, "What will I do today?" and you go and do it! For people living with disabilities, it is not that simple. 

RAA is working to broaden the inclusive recreational options in our community for people living with disabilities so that there is a choice of what is available, when it is available and who they can invite to experience the opportunity with them. This way people can “play” with whomever they want when it works for them. RAA has placed adaptive kayaks and cycles along the Canal from Buffalo to Schuylerville and works through various businesses to make them available to people with disabilities whenever the businesses are open.  

What You’ll be Helping Us With:

Adaptive equipment tends to be very expensive, so we try to keep it in the best condition as possible. We would love for your help in doing that. For many people, the ability to use this equipment brings independence, engagement with loved ones, and not sitting on the sidelines while others have fun together. How fun to be able to wake up on Saturday morning and ask, “What do I want to do today and who do I want to invite along?”

So please join us in making inclusion happen and get ready to wash some equipment, pump up some tires, grease some chains and help us get ready for an active and fun summer on the Canal for EVERYONE!

Volunteer Opportunity: Day of Caring at Homesteads for Hope Community Farm Join us for Day of Caring 2026 at Homesteads for Hope Community Farm and help us prepare the farm for an exciting summer season! Volunteers will work together to beautify the farm’s gardens and landscape, helping us plant flowers, spread mulch, and refresh key areas of the property. Depending on the number of volunteers, teams will be divided into several projects such as:

Barn Landscaping – Refresh garden beds around our historic barn

Farmhouse Landscaping – Plant flowers and enhance the main entrance areas

Sensory Garden Planting – Help expand our accessible garden spaces

U-Pick Flower Fields – Assist with planting flowers for our summer bloom season

Farm & Garden Tasks – Support planting in our 10+ acres of organically practiced vegetable fields

While volunteering, you’ll also learn about the mission of Homesteads for Hope—a community farm that provides inclusive programs for people with autism and intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our farm is a place where people of all abilities learn, work, and grow together. Your efforts help prepare the farm to welcome thousands of visitors each summer for programs, classes, and community events.

Construction and landscaping volunteers are essential to our mission of building homes, communities, and hope. No experience needed. Our construction team are professionals who will walk you through your tasks. We work year-round if conditions are safe. Close-toed shoes are required. We recommend wearing hard-soled shoes, work gloves, and dressing in layers. A hat or sunscreen is recommended in hot weather. Please do not wear sandals, flip flops, halter tops, or jewelry. We provide all tools and safety equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own. There will be a portable toilet on-site. On street parking is available on surrounding neighborhood streets. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Washing classroom exterior windows to help bring in more natural light for the children and Filling raised flower beds with soil Planting flowers and/or plants in two raised beds and two large outdoor pots This project will directly support our early childhood program by creating a welcoming, clean, and vibrant outdoor environment for the children and families we serve. Outdoor spaces are an important part of our daily curriculum. We greatly appreciate the time and energy of our volunteers and look forward to working together to enhance our space!

Begin Again Horse Rescue is an equine rescue that houses approximately 16 equines on-site.  The equines are all rescues or owner surrenders and are under evaluation and care for rehabilitation and rehoming.  The United Day of Caring volunteers are key to helping spruce up the rescue.  Some key focus areas include painting fences/barn doors, weeding and gardening around the house on the property, cleaning the fence line, and general yard work.  Maintaining the rescue for the safety of the equines and the volunteers is an important focus.   Both individuals and teams are welcome.  BAHR will provide lunch for the volunteers.  Thank you for considering and choosing BAHR for the 2026 United Day of Caring volunteering.  

Russer bridge needs to be taken completely

Help clear a parcel of property next to the Auburn Rail Trail.

We'll be cutting down scrub bushes and trees, clearing weeds and rocks, and leveling the ground.

Tools will be provided by Victor Hiking Trails.

Assisting with Projects at the Lyons Youth Baseball and Softball Complex

Projects may include painting/sealing porches or other outdoor areas on our campus, spreading mulch, or weeding and planting flowers.  There is not an alternative plan if it rains.

Pull weeds and extra growth, fill with mulch until it reaches 6-12 in from the top of stumps

Rake leaves & debris from creek and the creek banks, side of the road, parking areas, weed under entrance sign, cut back over hanging branches, remove vines & new growth.  

Paint/Staining the walls that go around the garbage bins

Clear dead and fallen limbs, trim overhanging branches, rake/add mulch to even out high/low spots, pile branches at trail entrances, sweep trail docks.  

Ropes Course/Treehouse:  Pull weeds, rake leaves, clear brush/fallen limbs, clear brush under cargo net, check for bees nests on course, trim low branches, weed whack the grove and around the treehouse, add mulch to even out high/low spots, and watch for poison ivy in trees under treehouse

Pull weeds and mulch entire playground.  Weed whack around edges where needed. 

Touch up of paint on our cabins. 

General cleaning of our health center, dust, sweep, mopping, disinfecting mattresses & wash windows.

Clean out the gully by Russer House up to the bridge, trim hanging branches, remove vines and new growth. 

Morning: dust/wipe down all moveable & non moveable display pieces, wipe down counters, wash glass display cases, sweep & mop floors. 

After lunch:  Assist with moving inventory boxes from camp office to the store, put sweatshirts on hangers & hang on racks, fold t-shirts & place on shelves.  

Wipe down of dressers, wood, dusting of windowsills, vacuum out dresser drawers

Clean up and garbage crew. During and after camp has been beautified, we need some help disposing of brush, garbage, and picking up supplies.  

At both Peggy and Wegman's house:  Remove cobwebs, clean windowsills, and wash interior & exterior of all windows, as well as doors.  

Spraying & wiping down of all Wegman's and Peggy's window screens.

Inside:  Dust rafters, remove cobwebs, sweep & mop, open windows & put in screens, general straightening up, wipe down wood with Murphy's oil soap.

Outside:  Rake side hill to parking area, all around chapel and yard areas, trim back overgrowth, gather debris & place in dumpster.  Clean bathrooms.

Join us for a fun and rewarding day cleaning, raking, painting and planting flowers at St. Joseph's Park and Schiller Park in the NW quadrant of downtown Rochester. Our efforts will include beautifying the greenspace surrounding both parks, as well as inside the historic ruins of St. Joseph's Church. This Registered National Landmark has been converted into an urban oasis, complete with trees, benches and greenery. Help us restore and revitalize these wonderful spaces for the public to enjoy all season long. Thank You!

Looking for a team of volunteers willing to get dirty, remove old annuals to make room for new flower buds.  We are also looking to revive our flower/ food garden beds behind the school building.  

The Day of Caring Cemetery Clean-Up brings volunteers together to honor those who came before us. Community members, families, civic groups, and local businesses work side by side to restore and protect a sacred public space.  

During this event, volunteers:

  • Remove litter and debris • Trim overgrown grass and brush • Refresh mulch and planting beds • Document damaged monuments for follow-up repair.

 This effort improves safety, preserves history, and strengthens community pride. It also teaches respect for legacy, service, and stewardship.   Participants receive a brief safety orientation and preservation guidance before work begins. All tools and cleaning supplies are provided. Volunteers are encouraged to wear work gloves, sturdy shoes, and weather-appropriate clothing.

Volunteers will be asked to help with the clean up of our residential camp at our beautiful Recreational Facility and corporate headquarters, in Mendon. If there is specific work volunteers would like, we will do our best to accommodate.
