Volunteer: Foster Caregivers for DogsCan you give a temporary home for a dog in need? One of our adoptable dogs would like to be your companion for a little while! Our shelter will set you up with food and equipment. Our dogs receive medical care from our shelter clinic. You provide a place to stay, daily care and exercise, and maybe some treats? We work around your schedule. The dogs are promoted for adoption through our website and social media. Many dogs have found homes quickly after a brief stay in a foster home. This is a great way for folks who can't have a "permanent" pet to help a dog in need.

Volunteer: Literacy Volunteers Wanted!LVOY is in need of volunteer tutors to help adults reach their literacy goals. The majority of our tutor training can be done remotely through online training. If you've considered becoming a literacy volunteer, this might be just the time for you to join us! Once meeting and gathering restrictions are lifted, we will complete paperwork and any final training needs before working to match you with an adult eager to learn. We have learners throughout Ontario and Yates County.
Tutors must complete an application and training. Tutor interests and strengths are considered when matching them with our adult learners. Each learner comes to LVOY with unique goals. We serve native English speakers who want to improve their literacy, pursue a high school equivalency diploma or professional license and more. We serve foreign-language speakers striving to become fluent in speaking, reading and writing English. We also help prepare students for the US Citizenship Exam. Tutors do not need to speak a foreign language to teach these students. LVOY provides ongoing training and staff support. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at a time and a public location convenient for the tutor and learner.
If you've been looking for a fulfilling volunteer opportunity that directly empowers individuals to improve their personal circumstances, please contact us to find out more about the work of LVOY!
