Come hang out at Rochester's home for the literary arts and help us wake up our gardens and grounds for the season!

Outdoor activities include:

Raking out beds

Picking up refuse and detritis from around the building

and more!

Our seasonal camp program and building need help in reopening for the year. The general tasks for the day will consist of: lawn clean up, power wash boats, misc. painting, cleaning windows and general spring cleaning in the camp building (sweeping, wiping surfaces/dusting, mopping etc). 

Details for the day:

We are in need of 20-30 people to complete the Opening Checklist and sincerely appreciate the support!

Inclement Weather Plan: This is an indoor and outdoor event. In the case of inclement weather we will work on all indoor related tasks. If there is rain only and individuals are willing to complete outdoor tasks, we suggest coming prepared with extra layers of clothing and a set of dry clothes, plus rain gear in order to stay as dry and warm as possible.

Please wear clothes you do not mind getting paint on.

Join us in stewarding Rochester's old growth forest. Volunteers will learn to identify and safely remove invasive plants and shrubs that threaten this unique ecosystem, helping to ensure its health for future generations. Tools, gloves, and light refreshments provided.

Please come join the Corn Hill beautification committee as we get our neighborhood in shape after a long winter!  We'll be digging garden beds, moving mulch, in addition to basic planting, weeding, cleaning up, etc.  Coffee and muffins from 8:30-9; lunch will be served; water provided throughout the day.  Gloves and tools will be available as well.

We managed to get the first coat of paint done in 2025... time for the second coat!

Painting a fresh coat of paint in our hallways. There are four hallways, 40 feet long and 9 feet high. Supplies will be provided. 

Ability to climb a ladder (some volunteers), paint with brush and roller, basic cleaning of walls. Dress in clothing you can clean and paint in. 

Our Day of Caring need mostly involves outdoor landscaping type work: weeding, mulching, sweeping, painting and planting. Wear clothes that can get dirty and we will hope for good weather. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will try to line up painting.

We have multiple flower, mulch, and stone beds that need to be turned over after weeding, as well as new mulch and stones spread.

Paint Picnic Tables, Benches,  Paint and/or touch up Split Rail Fences and Low Ropes Elements around camp property.

Clean program shelters 'top to bottom' -Windows -Sweep floors -Tidy up bathrooms- 5 shelters. Sweep and Power wash pool deck and splash pad. Weed cracks on pool deck and splash pad. Clean and set up chairs. Set up shade structure. Clean and set up Locker rooms.

Our youth program, playground, needs some TLC!

This year we are in need of help to spread 10 yards (nearly 2500 lbs.) of mulch for our Corps playground. It is a necessity to ensure that the children that enjoy our playground whether it is the public or those that attend our programs, such as Phoenix Afterschool, Phoenix Summer Day and Youth Night, can safely have fun!

We will be supplying not only the tools in order to spread the mulch but also bottled water to help keep everyone hydrated!

Our Children’s Place – Clifton Springs
Attic Clean‑Out Project Description
Our Children’s Place in Clifton Springs is completing a full clean‑out of the attic space in our two‑story building. The attic currently contains classroom equipment, materials, and past project items that need to be sorted and removed.
The work includes:
• Identifying and bringing down items that are no longer needed
• Disposing of designated items into a dumpster
• Navigating stairs repeatedly throughout the project
• Following direction from site leadership regarding what to keep, relocate, or discard
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently
• Ability to work safely in a storage/attic environment
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and work efficiently as part of a team

Goodwin Park is a small pocket-park considered a jewel at the end of Sibley Place, between East and Park Avenues in Rochester. The Park-Meigs Neighborhood Association maintains gardens in the park for the public to enjoy. This project includes preparing the park for the season with tasks including weeding and mulching the gardens as well as raking and general spring clean-up.

There will be landscaping and light garden maintenance at KidStart. Please bring gardening gloves and preferred gardening equipment.

The Eastside YMCA is seeking the support of 80 volunteers for United Way’s Day of Caring to help prepare our branch and Camp Eastside for the busy spring and summer seasons. This large-scale service day will focus on improving our outdoor spaces, community garden, and key indoor areas that directly support youth programs, families, and camp operations.

This work will have an immediate and visible impact on the thousands of members, campers, and families who use our facilities each year.

Volunteers will be assigned to teams and may assist with:

Outdoor Projects

General groundskeeping around the YMCA branch and camp areas

Basic gardening (weeding, mulching, bed clean-up)

Preparation and refresh of the community garden area

Painting and staining picnic tables

Painting or staining fences around Camp Eastside, as needed

Indoor Projects

Top-to-bottom cleaning of the Adventure Center

General indoor cleaning and organization projects as assigned

Breakfast and lunch for all volunteers

All necessary tools, supplies, and work gloves

On-site staff support and project coordination

Volunteers are welcome (but not required) to bring their own work gloves or small hand tools if they prefer.

We will make every effort to complete most work rain or shine. Please plan to dress appropriately for the weather on the day of the event, including comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor work.

Completing these projects in a single day allows us to be fully prepared for summer programming and ensures our facilities remain safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for the community we serve. This level of impact simply would not be possible without the generosity of our volunteers.

Join the Anthony Museum for Day of Caring and help us ready our historic grounds for the summer tourism season. We will be weeding, mulching, edging, and more in the gardens. The museum will provide all gardening tools though you are welcome to bring your own gardening gloves.

Preparing gardens at our day service program - weeding, trimming, raking and mulching

Volunteers will assist with weeding, laying mulch, removing shrubs (if necessary), and possibly painting tasks. Water will be provided, along with a box lunch. Vegetarian options can be accomodated if the team captain notiifies us in advance. While some tools will be available, there won't be enough for all 100 volunteers. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gardening hand tools and gloves.

The Crisis Nursery and Owen's House, programs of the Center for Youth, are looking for responsible volunteers, 16yrs and older, to volunteer for a 4 hour shift once a week or once every two weeks in a child care setting.

The Crisis Nurseries care for babies, toddlers and children up to age 14 when the families are in an emergency/crisis situation. All volunteers must pass a background check, and complete the necessary paperwork prior to volunteering. Orientation and training is provided. 

Shifts are generally 8am-12p, 12 to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm. Signups ups are done online with lots of flexibility to fit YOUR schedule. We are looking for volunteers for all shifts. This is perfect for high school students (16 and older) college students, retirees and anyone who loves children.

YWCA is seeking diaper donations to support families residing in our emergency and supportive housing programs. Many of the mothers we serve are working hard to rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, homelessness, or economic hardship. The cost of diapers places a significant financial strain on already limited budgets.

Access to an adequate supply of diapers is essential for the health, dignity, and stability of both infants and parents. Without enough diapers, families may struggle to attend work, school, or childcare programs.

Our Friendly Visitor Program connects volunteers with older adults who may be at risk for isolation.  With routine visits, our clients are given the gift of socialization, friendship and peace of mind.

Our Telephone Reassurance program aims to connect volunteers to older adults through routine phone contact to reduce isolation and ensure health and safety.

Volunteers provide Shopping Assistance to older adults who are challenged with leaving the home. The older adult provides a shopping list and payment and the volunteer shops for them and delivers the items.

We have a beautiful trail around our property that is open to all residents, visitors and community members to use. Over years, it has become overgrown with grass and weeds, and the once graveled path is now undefined and has become uneven which causes a risk to our residents and visitors. We would love to restore the trail so our residents and community members can safety enjoy the trail again.

The Community Hygiene Bank is looking for donations of sensitive toothpaste, Dove sensitive skin soap, and sensitive body lotion for our next couple of distributions. In addition to these sensitive items, we could also use Dove regular bar soap and dryer sheets.

Support the Pediatric Hospitality Cart at East River Road Pediatrics

Snack bag donations will help us launch and maintain a stationary hospitality cart for families visiting the Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness, and Pediatric Neurology clinics at UR Medicine.

This cart will offer free snack bags to children and their caregivers during clinic visits—providing comfort and relief during what can be long and stressful days. East River Road Pediatrics sees approximately 30,000 visits each year, with many families traveling 30 miles or more to attend appointments. For these families, a simple, nutritious snack can offer a moment of ease and care.

To bring this program to life, we’re seeking 52 volunteer groups or individuals—one for each week of the year—to commit to donating 500 pre-packaged snack bags, just once, for a designated week in 2026. Engage your family, corporate team, or service group to gather snacks, assemble the packs, and deliver them to our House to be available for our team to bring to East River Road!

Each snack bag costs only $1.41 to assemble, but the impact is priceless. Just one snack bag can brighten a child’s day, ease a caregiver’s stress, and support a positive clinic experience. With your support, we will be able to operate the Pediatric Hospitality Cart Monday through Friday, four hours a day, providing consistent care and nourishment to families all year long.

Perform or coordinate the maintenance, repairs and general upkeep of American Red Cross facilities primarily the Clara Barton house in Dansville, NY.

Natural and human-caused disasters occur every day, reminding us how vulnerable we can be. The American Red Cross takes action every day to serve people affected by disasters, rushing to the aid of a family, a neighborhood or an entire community.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) members respond locally to all disasters whenever they occur day or night. DAT members commit to being on-call and available for defined shifts so that when an emergency occurs either a dispatcher or the Disaster Program Manager can reach them and dispatch them immediately. DAT members meet with family members to determine their immediate, disaster-caused needs.

There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts during disaster relief operations across the country to help provide immediate compassion and care. Help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies so they don’t have to face tough times alone.

 Safety First! Our need for volunteers is constant and our guidelines reflect the latest CDC safety recommendations and follow the national and local government laws.  

Indoor Golf – Wednesdays 5-6pm- This program is an inclusive indoor program meant to refine the skills of the participants as well as play some courses during the colder months. Volunteer would aid with setting up the program, placing the ball and tee for the participants, selecting the proper club and ensuring a fun environment!

Bowling- Tuesdays-5-6pm  Bowling program gives a chance to allow participants who don’t normally have the opportunity to play to have fun in a inclusive environment. The volunteer will help participants bowl safely and proper. With certain individuals guide their role down the ramp, as well as ball selection, and again most importantly to have fun!

Pickleball-Mondays-5:00-6:00- A new program that is looking for compassionate and committed volunteers who will help make the game of pickleball accessible and enjoyable for players of all abilities. As a volunteer you will assist with setting up adaptive equipment, provide encouragement and support, ensure safety and create an inclusive and welcoming environment. This takes place at Dinkers, located at 140 Despatch Drive #135 East Rochester, NY 14445

Support local Red Cross disaster relief efforts by making sure that individual client cases are accurate to provide the best and most efficient access to resources in the RC Care System. Training is provided.

Each newly diagnosed individual who participates in a Breast Cancer or Gynecologic Cancer 101 at the Breast Cancer Coalition is provided with a PALS Pak, which contains useful and comforting items for those who are going through surgery and treatment. Each item in the Pak has a purpose. For example, the Susan Love Breast Book provides critical information and gift cards are added for those times when meal preparation is impossible. Mints can burn delicate mouth tissue during chemotherapy, so ginger candies, which may help reduce nausea, are included instead.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Rochester is seeking caring community partners to provide one dinner per month for families staying at our House Within the Hospital, located inside Strong Memorial Hospital.

This quiet, seven-bedroom space supports families with critically ill children, allowing them to stay just steps from their child’s bedside during intensive treatment. Due to the sensitive nature of the environment, we cannot host volunteer groups on-site — but your organization can still make a powerful impact by donating a comforting, ready-to-serve meal.

Your support helps provide warmth, care, and relief to families during incredibly difficult times — something they truly appreciate.

Our volunteers read and record national and local newspapers, magazines, and best-selling books so we can broadcast them for those who can't read on their own because of blindness or another vision, mobility, or learning disability. All that is required is an internet-connected computer, recording software (we recommend Audacity because it's free and easy to use), and a friendly, upbeat speaking voice. Do you have knowledge of or a passion for artwork and collectables? Volunteer at our BayTowne and Henrietta ReStores to help research and organize our artwork, collectables, and antiques. Assist in determining prices of artwork and collectables and creating displays of these donations throughout the store. Knowledge of artwork and collectables is preferred.

Urgent request for in-kind donations of gardening supplies and landscaping tools for our volunteers to use on May 15th, 2025 (United Way Day of Care).  Planting soil, shovels, flowerpots, plants and any other items that will help transform our outdoor space into a beautiful garden is greatly appreciated!

Description

Pet visitors are welcome and wanted at all ESLC communities, particularly Ashley Woods, Seabury Woods, and Brentland Woods Assisted Living Communities and our skilled nursing home, the Episcopal Church Home. Pet visitors will come in with their pets for residents to spend time with. Pets that are well-mannered, patient, and like to be touched are preferred.

Qualifications

·         An interest in working with seniors

·         A well-mannered pet who enjoys being around people

·         An interesting pet (turtle, snake, tarantula, guinea pig, bunny, etc) that can be an educational visitor to residents 

Responsibilities

o Spend time and visit with residents

o   Patience, compassion, and comfortability in working with an older population

o   Teach residents about pets  - share pet’s name, age, info about the species

Time Commitment

·         Visits can be one-time or on a regular basis (monthly, weekly, etc.). Regular visitors preferred.

Consider becoming a Board Member with the Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County! Our mission at Literacy Volunteers of Wayne County (NY) is to promote increased literacy in our community. We do this through well-trained volunteer tutors who provide free, one-to-one instruction in reading and writing, and English as a Second Language (ESL), the Our Community Reads program which is partnered with 9 of the 11 schools in Wayne County, our Infant and Toddler Book Clubs, and other initiatives. 

Never served on a Board? No problem! Your fellow Board Members will be happy to guide you! A Board Member is responsible for ensuring the organization has enough human, fiscal and community resources, and they provide the expertise and guidance required to conduct the organization's affairs. Fundraising and public relations are also major duties of a non-profit Board Member. Board Meetings are held every month for about 1-2 hours. Meetings can take place virtually or in person at our office. Board members are also involved in other exciting agency activities during the course of the year, such as our annual Bee-Cathalon.

We are in need of Nurses (RN, LPN) and Medical Assistants to support the volunteer Providers who administer to the needs of our patients and neighbors.  Shifts are available Monday - Friday 9 AM to 4 PM as often as once a week or even monthly.

We also have full-time positions open for a Lead Nurse and a Family Nurse Practitioner.

We are in desperate need for Male and female deodorants, shampoo, general household use spray cleaners and body wash, toilet paper, paper towels, feminine hygiene products: maxi pads, tampons and bladder leak pads, facial tissues and kitchen sized garbage bags are the most needed items overall.

We are in need of volunteer who would love to kick off our new crocheting program. The class will be held once or twice a month. One during the afternoon and one during the evening. We are looking for someone who can start with basic classes and move up to some challenging classes. Orientation of our building will be recommended before start date.

We are looking for a Yoga instructor to volunteer to their time to our members once or twice a month! 

Volunteers would be assisting in organizing and overseeing our food pantry, preparing and assisting with community chefs' meals and for meals of support. 

Volunteers needed for table events to spread cancer awareness. Table events are primarily handing out Cancer Support Community brochures and handing out information about our different programs we offer. These events are usually done on off site locations.

We are looking for volunteers to help in administrative tasks such as handing out FIT kit pickups, cataloging supplies, facility greeter and host, sending out birthday, condolence, and thank you cards. Also, helping out with event set-up and clean up and maintenances around the building. 

We need volunteers who can help our members navigate our website and register for classes. These volunteers will need an orientation before start date.

We need volunteers to help run our playroom during support meetings as well as youth events throughout the year. We are also looking for volunteers for our summer camp in 2025.

Volunteers needed to help with medical education in cancer and support. Preferably looking for active or retired physicians, licensed nurse practitioners and social workers.

Volunteers who would be willing to give time back to the community and join our organization. We are looking for volunteers to help spread Cancer support Community's presence in upstate New York by helping us spread awareness.

We are looking for volunteers who love making jewelry but also love teaching others as well. This class will take place two times a month. Our volunteers will need an orientation at our facility before a start date. 

We are looking for a very detailed oriented patient person, to manage and update our database.  The hours are flexible.  Accurate and good typing skills are necessary. The work has to be done onsite.

Assist older adults with their finances in Monroe, Genesee, Orleans, Livingston and Ontario Counties.

For some people, budgeting, bill paying and day-to-day financial matters become an impossible burden. This volunteer opportunity helps by working with neighbors who are struggling to manage their own finances. Work with creditors to resolve financial problems and create financial stability. Trained AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteers work one-on-one with clients. Training is ongoing and volunteers meet monthly for updates.

The Finger Lakes Caregiver Institute (FLCI) is seeking volunteers to provide friendly, non-medical caregiving to adults with mild cognitive impairment or early stage dementia, for a few hours a week. Give a caregiver a short break from responsibilities.

Help with Medicare information and guidance by training to become a non-biased, health insurance specialist. Explain benefits to beneficiaries and advocate for clients.
