We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity. 

Register on our website to get started. If it's your first time signing up with Team LFL, you will be prompted to create an account in our volunteer hub. Once you sign up, you will get access to tips & resources that you review independently online. Our Little Free Library staff can answer your questions by email. You can share books whenever it works for you.  

This is a great opportunity for solo volunteers looking for something flexible to fit their schedule, or for parents looking for a volunteer activity they can do with kids. 

Purpose: By keeping Little Free Libraries full of books, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access. 

Responsibilities:

Time required: You set your own schedule. It could be a one-time project or a regular book distribution schedule.

How we can support you: We'll help you start with some online training, and we will suggest sources for books.

Helping around the store organizing anything from the kitchen items, to the kids items, to sporting goods, or building materials.

Helping to sort metal from either scrap or unusable items. Separating out unusable components and helping us recycle.

Help us clean the insides and outsides of the windows that are accessible. Must be comfortable on a step ladder. No one will be asked to do anything they feel uncomfortable doing. Some exterior windows are reachable without a ladder.

We showcase most of our nicest china sets on tables, shelves, and hutches where they get dusty as time goes on. Helping them get clean enables them to find a new appreciative home sooner.

We have many categories of items that need researching and pricing. If you like to look up info on your phone and help us price items from books to toys to vintage clothing to artwork and more then this is the task for you.

We have bed and table linens that need to be measured and labeled.

Our 900 square foot Muscle Room is in need of cleaning. We have tiles on the floor, cars, slides and other equipment for the kids that needs a spring cleaning.

We are looking for regular volunteers to join us this summer to help tend to the garden at First Market Farm, located just across the street from the Public Market at 20 First St. Volunteers would help us to water, weed, and harvest.

We believe very strongly that books should never be thrown out unless they are damaged through water, rodents, fire, etc.

So we have A LOT of books and love when people come out to help us sort and shelves the newest donations as well as research and help us price them. We try to use ABEbooks.com as a basis and we have found them to be most fair. If you disagree we are welcome to talk about it and learn from new information provided to us.

Project 1 (20 people) :Help clear a parcel of property next to the Auburn Rail Trail.

We'll be cutting down scrub bushes and trees, clearing weeds and rocks, and leveling the ground.

Tools will be provided by Victor Hiking Trails.

Dress for the weather, bring gloves and water if you have them.

Project 2 (10 people): help clear and build a trail on property on the west side of Mud Creek near Mertensia Park.

Volunteers will use hand tools to clear space and create a 0.5 - 1.0 multi-use trail.

The library needs the landscaping around the circumference of the library building worked up, edged, raked, weeded and mulch (provided) spread out. Sweep and clean up surrounding sidewalk areas.

We will be prepping materials to giveaway to community gardens in the evening in our combined event with the city plant giveaway at the Public Market including transporting materials to the Public Market. 

We need general yard clean up and weeding on a regular basis through the growing season, spring through fall. 

Spring clean-up to include: tent installation, canopy installations,  garden clean-up and mulching, painting/staining of tables and fences, power washing of equipment and spaces, moving equipment into place (tables, archery, canoes, etc), and pavilion/barn clean-up.  Please dress accordingly.

Monroe Community Hospital needs YOU to help transport residents in wheelchairs to on-site activities, events and programs!  We are seeking to build a transport team of committed volunteers who have weekday availability, the desire to help others, and enjoy meeting new people.  By making it possible for residents to participate and engage, Transport volunteers have a tremendous, positive impact.  Plus it’s also a great way to “get your steps in” throughout our beautiful facility! Days and times vary, and your schedule can be flexible.

Supporting residents with a friendly visit may be one of the most rewarding volunteer roles at Monroe Community Hospital!  Visitors provide friendly conversation, interaction, and companionship; they also accompany residents to recreation programs and activities, or to places of interest within the MCH Campus. Shift2 is elevating our television game!

As we receive larger technology donations from our partner corporations, we need to adjust our process and make the most of our space. Our inventory of TVs is currently spread out over multiple rolling carts and pallets, so we need something more permanent and effective!

If you choose to join in on the fun, you will be tasked with hanging our wooden wall racking so that we can have permanent TV storage and display. This will allow Shift2 to more effectively store, test, and triage our televisions so that other local non-profits and organizations can receive them.

Every desktop computer contains approximately 0.2 to 0.5 grams of gold.

That is almost $100 worth!

However, it is not easy to harvest this gold. It is in the circuit boards and connector pins of your PC, and it is mixed with other precious metals like copper, zinc, and platinum. Extracting these metals requires a complicated refinery process where the individual computer components are melted down and the metals are separated.

An important part of Shift2's mission is to extract as much value as we can out of technology, and if a device cannot be refurbished, we work hard to recycle these computers. In order to get the computer ready to be refined for its metals, it must be taken apart! This is where you come in.

Grab your screwdriver and get ready to deconstruct computers! Every component must be separated and sorted, and any wires and circuit boards must be removed from the metal case of the PC. You will be guided through this process by our team, and you will help prevent these devices from being thrown away and wasted. Get ready to get your hands dirty!

Bridges for Brain Injury is a nonprofit dedicated to helping adults affected by traumatic brain injury, physical disabilities, and related challenges live with greater independence, dignity, and hope. Our unique, Wildlife Rockstars program, educates our members on how to take care of over 50 exotic, farm and native animals. We provide presentations throughout the community to raise awareness for brain injuries and provide wildlife education. Our work supports families, and connects people with resources that make daily life more fulfilling and meaningful.

For Veterans Outreach Centers Flag Day campaign, our goal is to get a hand-held American Flag into as many people’s hands as possible. This event helps raise funds so VOC can continue to provide critically needed programs and services to veterans and their families. About VOC: All veterans are welcome at VOC. We offer the following services; Employment Assistance, Job Training, Health & Wellness Services, Residential Programs, Veteran & Family Supportive Services, Veterans Treatment Court, Quartermaster (provides free food, clothing, hygiene kits, and more!), and Bus Passes. We are so happy to be participating in Day of Caring once again! 

Join Lochland School for a Day of Caring focused on beautifying our historic Geneva campus, home to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Volunteers will assist with gardening, landscaping, and general outdoor cleanup to help create a welcoming and vibrant environment for residents.

Activities may include weeding, mulching, planting flowers, light landscaping, and seasonal cleanup. Volunteers ages 12 and older are welcome; those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

This is a great opportunity to enjoy time outdoors, give back to the community, and make a visible impact in a single day. Lunch will be provided at noon for all volunteers.

Volunteers will assist with organizing and updating GO ART!’s community library records. Books in the library have already been alphabetized and physically categorized, and many are already entered into our system. Volunteers will help review those entries in Airtable to ensure each book is assigned to the correct category.

There may also be newly donated books that need to be added to the system. Volunteers will help enter basic information for these items and place them in the appropriate category with step-by-step guidance from staff.

This is a simple, guided project focused on organization and attention to detail. Volunteers will work in small groups and receive clear instructions. No prior experience with Airtable or library systems is required.

This project helps improve access to books and resources for the community by keeping GO ART!’s library accurate, organized, and easy to use.

Volunteers will assist with organizing and cataloguing GO ART!’s tools and materials. Tasks will include sorting items, grouping similar materials, and entering basic information into a simple tracking system (Airtable) with staff guidance.

Familiarity with common tools or materials is helpful for identifying items, but it is not required if you are ready and able to look them up on your phone or work together with someone that has tool knowledge.

This is a light-duty, indoor project focused on organization, teamwork, and attention to detail. Clear instructions and support will be provided, and no prior experience with Airtable is needed.

This project helps GO ART! maintain an organized and efficient workspace that supports arts programming, events, and community use of the facility.

Volunteers can help with weeding and general tidying following the Festival.  Volunteers should wear clothing suitable for gardening (including gloves) and we will provide the tools.

Summer Outdoor Visitors work in a one-on-one or small group setting with residents, providing social interaction and conversation outdoors during the summer. The goal of this role is to allow residents to spend quality time outdoors in the warm weather and provide companionship and support while they do. Volunteers would transport residents from resident floors to outdoor spaces to spend quality time.

We are looking for literacy coaches for our after school program that serves new Americans developing their literacy skills (Somali, Nepali, Hispanic populations). The after school programs runs from 3-5pm (2 hour shifts).

·         Collect up to date contact information from participants and submit session attendance.

An Alzheimer’s and Dementia Educator plays a key role in raising awareness and providing education about Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and brain health. This will involve delivering presentations, workshops, and educational sessions to various groups, including caregivers, families, and people living with dementia, to increase understanding of dementia and promote early detection, prevention strategies, and caregiving support.

Qualifications

·         Strong skills in communication, presenting, and educating adult audiences.

·         Ability to create and maintain a safe environment where participants’ thoughts and feelings are valued and everyone is treated with fairness and respect.

ESLC is seeking volunteers who are energetic and eager to help in the community, particularly in ways that connect with the older adult population. St. Leo Senior Apartments is an independent living community in Hilton. St. Leo is seeking volunteers who are energetic and eager to help in the community, particularly in ways that will connect with the older adult population.

St. Leo's Senior Apartments is a supportive housing community in Hilton, New York. Episcopal SeniorLife Communities provides services to residents at St. Leo's through the Empire State Supportive Housing Initiative (ESSHI). Friendly visitors work on a one-on-one basis with residents, have conversations, play games, and provide social interaction. The goals of the friendly visitor program are to provide mental stimulation and social support.

Pet Visits
Share the joy of your furry friend! Pets with friendly temperaments (no therapy certification required) are welcome after a basic screening. Their humans must be approved volunteers too.

United Way Day of Caring – May 21st

Join us for the United Way Day of Caring on May 21st as we come together to make a meaningful difference in our community!

Help us beautify our house for Spring! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to lend a hand with refreshing both the inside and outside of our space. Your time and effort will help create a clean, welcoming environment for everyone who walks through our doors.

Volunteers will assist with a variety of tasks, including:

Whether you can join us for a few hours or the whole day, your support will make a big impact. We appreciate your willingness to give back and help us prepare for the season ahead!

t’s time for spring cleaning on one of Rochester’s premiere urban nature/hiking trails, Thomas R. Frey Trail at El Camino, a 2.25 mile multi-purpose pedestrian greenway adapted from an old railroad line with a children’s playground at its heart. The trail and the gardens at the playground require cleaning of winter debris, weeding, planting and mulching. Shovels, rakes, loppers, work gloves are provided. We would like five teams of about 15-20 each to be working at 3 locations along the trail and at the entrance at Brewer Street to the Riverway Trail. 

Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools and gloves if they prefer to use them.

Coffee/doughnuts on arrival. Salvatore's pizza, sodas, fruit, cookies at noon.

We are looking for help to get our outdoor classroom up and running. This could include putting together garden beds, clearing the trail space, planting trees, making signs and cleaning the general outdoor areas. While we will have some supplies, weedwackers, pressure washers and rakes would be helpful to make this a success! 

We have a storage unit in the Hall of Justice that needs some love and organization! We have had some very generous donations over the years, and we need some of the gifts/toys unwrapped and/or organized by age/ skill, etc. We will purchase shelves (that will need to be assembled) and baskets for the toys to be placed into once they are sorted. We have other items that could use a freshen up as well. 

Wood Library collects new and gently-used purses from community members throughout the year for its signature November fundraiser - Pursapalooza.  On The United Way Day of Caring, volunteers will gather at Wood Library to clean donated purses.  This volunteer opportunity is a perfect activity for anyone who enjoys purses and loves libraries! 

We are looking for assistance with our yard and gardens - raking and spreading mulch.

This year, we need assistance with getting our gardens up for the spring season. This includes weeding, mulching, and planting annuals. Our garden club will be here to assist you. If you have gardening tools and gloves, please bring them along. We also have garage cleaning and work inside the museum to get us ready for opening on May 22. We will be ordering lunch for all.

Bring your gloves, rakes and small shovels to rake, mulch and plant flowers.  If its a nice day you will wash chairs with our children.  We will wash outside toys and if you wish to visit in the classrooms, you can wash with our children!  Window, cubbies and general cleaning indoors if we have time!

We would love to have your help to get our gardens ready for spring! Ellen's Place has raised beds that we could use support in preparing for planting season. We are always so grateful for the volunteers who help us out each year with United Way's Annual Day of Caring! We look forward to working with you!

This is a need for anyone interested in going around to Rochester area businesses and handing out flyers for Rochester Rainbow Union.  This includes being a representative for RRU and talking with anyone who has questions about the organization and the Lilac Library. The hours are variable.

Volunteers will greet visitors and work on library-related projects including: checking in/out library books, re-shelving books, folding clothes for the clothing closet, organizing, and general office work. Volunteers must have a commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community as well as a commitment to ending racism.

In memory of Edgar Santa Cruz, who was an active member of the urban agriculture community, we will have a day of service starting at Cameron Community Ministries Edgar Santa Cruz Peace Garden and then splitting off into various locations to work in gardens. 

Join us for a joyful afternoon of music, treats, and connection at St. Ann’s Home & Wegman Care Center. Volunteers are needed to help make our Concert + Ice Cream event special for the elders we serve. This opportunity is a great way to bring smiles, lend a hand, and enjoy a feel‑good experience.

Volunteer Activities Include:
• Assisting elders into and out of the event space (this will include pushing wheelchairs)
• Scooping ice cream and portioning toppings
• Serving and engaging warmly with residents

Your time and kindness will help create a memorable event filled with music, laughter, and community.

This opportunity is all about connection—offering companionship, smiles, and a little extra kindness that can truly brighten someone’s day.

• Accompanying elders on short outdoor walks, weather and time permitting

We will need a few volunteers to help wipe down some of the equipment and clean up the wellness center

Our Toddler gym has a need for the passing to be cleaned and re organized.

W could use some assistance cleaning some of the toys and mats in the child watch and adventure center areas.

Our aquatics department would appreciate some help scrubbing the pool deck and cleaning up the touch to reach areas.

We need volunteers to pull out our kayaks and canoes, build a rack for our life jackets and help to organize our camp supplies.
