Volunteer: Literacy Volunteers Wanted!LVOY is in need of volunteer tutors to help adults reach their literacy goals. The majority of our tutor training can be done remotely through online training. If you've considered becoming a literacy volunteer, this might be just the time for you to join us! Once meeting and gathering restrictions are lifted, we will complete paperwork and any final training needs before working to match you with an adult eager to learn. We have learners throughout Ontario and Yates County.
Tutors must complete an application and training. Tutor interests and strengths are considered when matching them with our adult learners. Each learner comes to LVOY with unique goals. We serve native English speakers who want to improve their literacy, pursue a high school equivalency diploma or professional license and more. We serve foreign-language speakers striving to become fluent in speaking, reading and writing English. We also help prepare students for the US Citizenship Exam. Tutors do not need to speak a foreign language to teach these students. LVOY provides ongoing training and staff support. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at a time and a public location convenient for the tutor and learner.

Agency: Literacy Volunteers Ontario-Yates, Inc. (LVOY) LVOY is in need of volunteer tutors to help adults reach their literacy goals. The majority of our tutor training can be done remotely through online training. If you've considered becoming a literacy volunteer, this might be just the time for you to join us! Once meeting and gathering restrictions are lifted, we will complete paperwork and any final training needs before working to match you with an adult eager to learn. We have learners throughout Ontario and Yates County.
Tutors must complete an application and training. Tutor interests and strengths are considered when matching them with our adult learners. Each learner comes to LVOY with unique goals. We serve native English speakers who want to improve their literacy, pursue a high school equivalency diploma or professional license and more. We serve foreign-language speakers striving to become fluent in speaking, reading and writing English. We also help prepare students for the US Citizenship Exam. Tutors do not need to speak a foreign language to teach these students. LVOY provides ongoing training and staff support. Tutoring sessions are scheduled at a time and a public location convenient for the tutor and learner.

Volunteers of America’s Emergency Shelter for Homeless Families is open and operating. We are serving more than 50 men, women and children daily, providing them with housing, nutritious meals, and private rooms were they can safely self-isolate. We rely on the generous support of community members to provide us with basic necessities for families, including personal toiletries (shampoo and deodorant), towels and linens. We also need supplies for the shelter, including: Laundry detergent Bleach Antibacterial soap Hand sanitizer Paper towels Toilet paper MasksBrowse our Amazon Wishlist to donate supplies from the comfort of your home.
