Nurture is a no-cost peer support program for families with babies up to one year old in the Rochester area. The full Nurture Program Description can be found on Parenting Village's website.  

In response to COVID-19, Nurture Volunteers are supporting families remotely until it is safe to resume in-home support.

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for volunteers who identify as an experienced parent or caregiver and whose child(ren) are older than 18 months.  Volunteers must be willing to participate in a Volunteer orientation and complete a background check.

Volunteers who are offering Remote Nurture Support may offer one or all of the following types of peer support:

Following your initial connection with the program coordinator, all interested volunteers will complete a Nurture Volunteer Application, participate in a Volunteer Orientation and will complete a background check.

Need for cleaning and sanitizing

Two walkie talkies, needed to communicate to staff, when in different areas of the building. (used or new is okay) we are grateful.

Agape Haven of Abundance is in need of the following in-kind donations to continue to support our Community Outreach Initiative. Donations can be dropped off at 289 Driving Park between the hours of 12 noon and 5:00 pm.

Frequently we are offered donations of furniture, tables, beds and or mattresses  that our clients could really use!  Our biggest obstacle is not having the right vehicle or muscle to move  or these items!  We are looking for someone with a pick up truck or something along those lines and a couple strong friends to help us meet these needs! Mothers In Need of Others has ongoing needs for baby care items, hygiene products, and cleaning supplies. To donate, please call (585) 348-8596 to schedule a drop off time.

 One of the housing options the YWCA offers is  treatment program for women recovering from substance disorder. We provide apartments for women and their children.  We do not separate families which makes us unique in New York state. Our Stepping Stones program has a stellar reputation, and we have helped countless families on the road to recovery. 

We provide all the apartments with essential goods, including pots and pans, flatware, sheets, towels, etc.  We like to keep all the items provided in the individual apartments uniform, and we  find the best deals at Wal-Mart, so we are requesting Wal-Mart gift cards to be used specifically for this program. The YWCA is required to provide these essential goods to our residents, but the funding sources are drying up! Perhaps you would like to do this as a group fundraiser?  Or a competition? We would love that

House of John needs more Clorox wipes and bleach to keep the house clean for staff, patients and families. Items can be dropped off on the porch located at the front of the house. We are looking for a volunteer to skim coat our front steps and some parts of our façade and do some painting outdoor painting.

We are looking for an experienced and careful worker who has the time, tools and talent!

Can you give a temporary home for a dog in need? One of our adoptable dogs would like to be your companion for a little while! Our shelter will set you up with food and equipment. Our dogs receive medical care from our shelter clinic. You provide a place to stay, daily care and exercise, and maybe some treats? We work around your schedule. The dogs are promoted for adoption through our website and social media.  Many dogs have found homes quickly after a brief stay in a foster home. This is a great way for folks who can't have a "permanent" pet to help a dog in need.

We are looking for volunteers to lead fun (socially distant) out door activities for adults, such as Yoga or Zumba or other aerobic classes in our parking lot.

The Arc Wayne’s group homes for individuals with disabilities, as well as Roosevelt Children’s Center’s day care services are essential during the COVID-19 pandemic. To keep our staff and the people we support safe, The Arc Wayne needs cleaning products such as hand sanitizer, Clorox wipes, and disinfecting spray.

We will be starting our Mobile Diaper Bank in the next few weeks, as our facility is unable to be open to our families in need.  Our mobile diaper bank will help families to get the items needed now, in light of this pandemic and later to help combat the transportation barrier.  We have a sufficient supply of diaper ( I think!) Volunteers of America’s Emergency Shelter for Homeless Families is open and operating.   We are serving more than 50 men, women and children daily, providing them with housing, nutritious meals, and private rooms were they can safely self-isolate.  

We rely on the generous support of community members to provide us with basic necessities for families, including personal toiletries (shampoo and deodorant), towels and linens.  We also need supplies for the shelter, including:
