Come hang out at Rochester's home for the literary arts and help us wake up our gardens and grounds for the season!

Outdoor activities include:

Raking out beds

Trimming bushes

Weeding

Picking up refuse and detritis from around the building

and more!

Our seasonal camp program and building need help in reopening for the year. The general tasks for the day will consist of: lawn clean up, power wash boats, misc. painting, cleaning windows and general spring cleaning in the camp building (sweeping, wiping surfaces/dusting, mopping etc).

We are in need of 20-30 people to complete the Opening Checklist and sincerely appreciate the support!

Inclement Weather Plan: This is an indoor and outdoor event. In the case of inclement weather we will work on all indoor related tasks. If there is rain only and individuals are willing to complete outdoor tasks, we suggest coming prepared with extra layers of clothing and a set of dry clothes, plus rain gear in order to stay as dry and warm as possible.

Please wear clothes you do not mind getting paint on.

t’s time for spring cleaning on one of Rochester’s premiere urban nature/hiking trails, Thomas R. Frey Trail at El Camino, a 2.25 mile multi-purpose pedestrian greenway adapted from an old railroad line with a children’s playground at its heart. The trail and the gardens at the playground require cleaning of winter debris, weeding, planting and mulching. Shovels, rakes, loppers, work gloves are provided. We would like five teams of about 15-20 each to be working at 3 locations along the trail and at the entrance at Brewer Street to the Riverway Trail. 

Volunteers are welcome to bring their own tools and gloves if they prefer to use them.

Coffee/doughnuts on arrival. Salvatore's pizza, sodas, fruit, cookies at noon.

Join us in stewarding Rochester's old growth forest. Volunteers will learn to identify and safely remove invasive plants and shrubs that threaten this unique ecosystem, helping to ensure its health for future generations. Tools, gloves, and light refreshments provided.

Please come join the Corn Hill beautification committee as we get our neighborhood in shape after a long winter!  We'll be digging garden beds, moving mulch, in addition to basic planting, weeding, cleaning up, etc.  Coffee and muffins from 8:30-9; lunch will be served; water provided throughout the day.  Gloves and tools will be available as well.

We managed to get the first coat of paint done in 2025... time for the second coat!

Painting a fresh coat of paint in our hallways. There are four hallways, 40 feet long and 9 feet high. Supplies will be provided. 

Ability to climb a ladder (some volunteers), paint with brush and roller, basic cleaning of walls. Dress in clothing you can clean and paint in. 

Our Day of Caring need mostly involves outdoor landscaping type work: weeding, mulching, sweeping, painting and planting. Wear clothes that can get dirty and we will hope for good weather. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will try to line up painting.

We have multiple flower, mulch, and stone beds that need to be turned over after weeding, as well as new mulch and stones spread.

Paint Picnic Tables, Benches,  Paint and/or touch up Split Rail Fences and Low Ropes Elements around camp property.

Clean program shelters 'top to bottom' -Windows -Sweep floors -Tidy up bathrooms- 5 shelters. Sweep and Power wash pool deck and splash pad. Weed cracks on pool deck and splash pad. Clean and set up chairs. Set up shade structure. Clean and set up Locker rooms.

Our youth program, playground, needs some TLC!

This year we are in need of help to spread 10 yards (nearly 2500 lbs.) of mulch for our Corps playground. It is a necessity to ensure that the children that enjoy our playground whether it is the public or those that attend our programs, such as Phoenix Afterschool, Phoenix Summer Day and Youth Night, can safely have fun!

We will be supplying not only the tools in order to spread the mulch but also bottled water to help keep everyone hydrated!

Our Children’s Place – Clifton Springs
Attic Clean‑Out Project Description
Our Children’s Place in Clifton Springs is completing a full clean‑out of the attic space in our two‑story building. The attic currently contains classroom equipment, materials, and past project items that need to be sorted and removed.
The work includes:
• Identifying and bringing down items that are no longer needed
• Disposing of designated items into a dumpster
• Navigating stairs repeatedly throughout the project
• Following direction from site leadership regarding what to keep, relocate, or discard
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds
• Ability to walk up and down stairs frequently
• Ability to work safely in a storage/attic environment
• Ability to follow verbal instructions and work efficiently as part of a team

Teen Empowerment's new building on Genesee St. has a wonderful garden that collects a lot of leaves and weeds :). We are looking for an energetic crew to rake, weed and mulch our beds. 

Goodwin Park is a small pocket-park considered a jewel at the end of Sibley Place, between East and Park Avenues in Rochester. The Park-Meigs Neighborhood Association maintains gardens in the park for the public to enjoy. This project includes preparing the park for the season with tasks including weeding and mulching the gardens as well as raking and general spring clean-up.

There will be landscaping and light garden maintenance at KidStart. Please bring gardening gloves and preferred gardening equipment.

The Eastside YMCA is seeking the support of 80 volunteers for United Way’s Day of Caring to help prepare our branch and Camp Eastside for the busy spring and summer seasons. This large-scale service day will focus on improving our outdoor spaces, community garden, and key indoor areas that directly support youth programs, families, and camp operations.

This work will have an immediate and visible impact on the thousands of members, campers, and families who use our facilities each year.

Volunteers will be assigned to teams and may assist with:

Outdoor Projects

General groundskeeping around the YMCA branch and camp areas

Basic gardening (weeding, mulching, bed clean-up)

Preparation and refresh of the community garden area

Painting and staining picnic tables

Painting or staining fences around Camp Eastside, as needed

Indoor Projects

Top-to-bottom cleaning of the Adventure Center

General indoor cleaning and organization projects as assigned

Breakfast and lunch for all volunteers

All necessary tools, supplies, and work gloves

On-site staff support and project coordination

Volunteers are welcome (but not required) to bring their own work gloves or small hand tools if they prefer.

We will make every effort to complete most work rain or shine. Please plan to dress appropriately for the weather on the day of the event, including comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for outdoor work.

Completing these projects in a single day allows us to be fully prepared for summer programming and ensures our facilities remain safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for the community we serve. This level of impact simply would not be possible without the generosity of our volunteers.

Join the Anthony Museum for Day of Caring and help us ready our historic grounds for the summer tourism season. We will be weeding, mulching, edging, and more in the gardens. The museum will provide all gardening tools though you are welcome to bring your own gardening gloves.

Volunteers will assist with weeding, laying mulch, removing shrubs (if necessary), and possibly painting tasks. Water will be provided, along with a box lunch. Vegetarian options can be accomodated if the team captain notiifies us in advance. While some tools will be available, there won't be enough for all 100 volunteers. Participants are encouraged to bring their own gardening hand tools and gloves.
