JustCause is back in-person at the Federal Court for our Pro Se Assistance Program, and we are lucky to be staffed by Bradon Carlson, a pro bono scholar from Syracuse University School of Law.  We will be in person on Wednesdays through May 22nd.  JustCause is looking for volunteers to advise clients for these in-person PSAP clinics.

The 7th Judicial District Court Help Center was established in 2013 as part of the New York State Unified Court System's Access to Justice Initiative. In collaboration with the Court, JustCause staff and Pro bono Attorneys provide forms and procedural information to unrepresented litigants to assist in navigating the court system.

The Help Center does not provide legal advice.  Law librarians and JustCause staff are onsite to assist as needed.

Virtual opportunities: remote bankruptcy screenings; remote federal court pro se assistance cases.  These are advice-only cases where volunteers provide advice to pro se litigants in Federal Court answering questions about their cases and next steps. Additionally, foreclosure settlement conferences are remote.

Health Unit - Wills, Powers of Attorney, Advanced Directives

Assist people living with HIV/AIDS, LGBTQ persons, older adults and the disabled, specifically with preparing wills, powers of attorney, and health care proxies.  

Skills: Client interviewing; drafting

Tasks: Prepare memos, letters and documents; prepare case files for referral, outreach, intake

Volunteer attorneys may represent clients in domestic violence divorces and other related family law matters such as support and custody, and may  assist with brief service clinic matters in determining the feasibility of filing Family Court custody or visitation petition.

Skills: Client interviewing; courtroom skills; drafting; negotiation

Tasks: Intake, case assessment, petitions

Virtual opportunities: custody clinic is one that often can be managed virtually, providing on-on-one consultations with a pro bono volunteer or staff attorney

Volunteers are needed to assist clients facing eviction, both in and outside of court.  Specifically, volunteers in TDP may provide brief service to clients facing eviction or represent clients in various town and village courts in Monroe County, including Irondequoit and Brighton Town Courts.  

Skills: Courtroom skills; settlement negotiation; client interviewing

Virtual opportunities: advice-only cases where volunteers provide advice to clients after we have completed their intake.

Supported by a staff attorney and paralegal, volunteer attorneys in the Immigration Unit may assist clients with the following issues:

We are always in need for caring people to help our guests through the end of life journey with personal care and comfort

Seeking person with human services or teaching background to field calls from clients requesting emergency food assistance.  Requires very basic computer skills.  Verifiers, as we call these volunteers, work from home and are on duty from 9 AM to 3 PM to check phone messages and return calls.  Daily call volume varies and generally is not heavy.  Most verifiers volunteer 3-4 days per month, every other month; however, scheduling is flexible.

Our Day resource Center is in need of a New roof and are limited on funding for such an overhaul. We are hoping there might be a local roofing company, an organization, or an individual that might have resources to help us with this huge project.

Our Children's Place is in need of leaf cleanup in the front and sides of our building. Individuals should bring garbage bags, load leaves, and can dispose on premise.

We are looking for volunteers seeking an opportunity to tutor adults or support adults with digital literacy. We train volunteers to provide instruction for adults, 18 and up, seeking assistance with reading, math (below 9th grade reading level), English as a New Language, and Digital Literacy. Volunteers meet in public places in Monroe County, such as a public library, to work with students to achieve success in the areas they hope to improve.

This is a need for anyone interested in tabling events for Rochester Rainbow Union. This includes being a representative for RRU and talking with attendees about the organization and the Lilac Library. The hours vary from event to event. 

This is a need for anyone interested in utilizing the library space for projects, tabling and other group activities.

We have a team of caregivers who work in pairs for 4-hour shifts to provide personal care for our residents. No prior experience is required as training will be provided, along with the opportunity to shadow current caregivers. Caregivers will also interact with residents' families and friends, perform light meal preparation, take care of laundry, answer phones, greet visitors, and work together with the Aurora House staff. We encourage caregivers to volunteer for at least one 4-hour shift per month.

Abraham Lincoln School 22 has about 500 students and many are in need of hats and gloves.  

We will be collecting hats and gloves in the school's Main Office through the Winter.  

The Alliance for the Great Lakes is a nonpartisan nonprofit working across the Great Lakes region to protect our most precious resource: the fresh, clean, and natural waters of the Great Lakes. We are active in advocacy, volunteering, education, and research. One of the ways to advance our efforts is by becoming an Alliance Ambassador.  

Alliance Ambassadors 

We give Ambassadors training about the Great Lakes and how best to advocate to protect them. Virtual meetings are held throughout the year where Ambassadors can learn from experts about Great Lakes topics like plastic pollution, invasive species, and water infrastructure. We also help Ambassadors build skills like public speaking and tabling.

We are currently looking for volunteers to help us with our outdoor education program. We begin with 4yr olds in Forest School and go up through high school. 

Earthworks is a youth development program offered by The Center for Youth that focuses on 21st Century Skills, experiential learning, STEAM and environmental enrichment, and personal wellness. By partnering with community leaders and educators we develop programs that build healthy, lasting, bonds between land and community.

Environmental science, forestry, and education are at the heart of what we do. Earthworks offers the skills and experience to facilitate safe, nature-based programs among diverse groups while helping them to develop skills and experiences that connect youth with their world and each other.

We are in need of all size diapers (1-6) for our refugee children. In 2022, we provided 459 diapers to 101 parents for their babies. Our supply has run dry and we are in need of donations to continue to provide them to our families.

Monroe Community Hospital needs YOU to help transport residents in wheelchairs to on-site activities, events and programs!  We are seeking to build a transport team of committed volunteers who have weekday availability, the desire to help others, and enjoy meeting new people.  By making it possible for residents to participate and engage, Transport volunteers have a tremendous, positive impact.  Plus it’s also a great way to “get your steps in” throughout our beautiful facility! Days and times vary, and your schedule can be flexible.

Do you love "thrifting," reusing, and recycling? If so, volunteering at the MCH Thrift Shop is a great way to enjoy our inventory of unique, gently-used items, clothing, and accessories, as well as provide a valuable service to MCH residents, staff and visitors! As a Sales Associate, you will provide friendly customer service, cashier, and keep the shop tidy and organized. The Shop is open 11:30 to 4:00, so your shift will be approximately 11:15 to 4:15, with a half-hour lunch break. We currently need volunteers for Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Supporting residents with a friendly visit may be one of the most rewarding volunteer roles at Monroe Community Hospital!  Visitors provide friendly conversation, interaction, and companionship; they also accompany residents to recreation programs and activities, or to places of interest within the MCH Campus. Volunteers are encouraged to make a weekly commitment, choosing a day and time that works for them.

UR Well Maplewood is currently looking for volunteers to perform PPD readings on Saturday mornings at 10AM at Maplewood YMCA. The only requirement is having either an RN, NP, PA, MD, or any medical license that allows you to independently perform PPD readings. Time commitment is typically no more than 15-30 min per Saturday shift.

Each qualifying Afghan ally, who served US interests, must complete 100 hours of volunteer hours with Keeping Our Promise and the community, to be eligible for our "Wheels for Work" car grant. They must also be working, or close to securing employment.

We accept car and van donations from community members and organizations to fulfill these grants.

Laptop computers are needed so our families can write resumes, search the internet for employment, and connect! We have an IT specialist who can fix older laptops and "scrub" information to get these devices ready for family use.

Keeping Our Promise is seeking community members willing to be guarantors for homes and apartments of Afghan evacuees arriving to Rochester. Our organization pays first months rent and deposit, and subsidizes monthly rent amounts over DSS benefits for up to one year. Although we are not permitted to be a guarantor, we do assume financial responsibility for the occupant.

We can provide guarantor references upon request.

Our Move Coordinator is currently facilitating 1 to 4 moves per month. These moves consist of accessing donated furniture, loading needed items based on family size, and delivering the furniture to the new home.

Move Team Leaders will receive hands on training prior to leading a move. They are not required to lift furniture, though it is helpful where possible. Keeping Our Promise pairs each Move Leader with plenty of resettled Afghan refugee helpers, who are working to complete their volunteer hours to qualify for our "Wheels for Work" Car Grant.

Move Team Leaders must be comfortable driving the organizations van with a trailer, or box truck, to transport furniture from storage to homes. They may also be asked to drive the refugee team home afterward.

Kirkhaven is looking for religious volunteers of all faiths, who are interested in donating their time to lead services, play religious music or lead bible studies for our residents. These groups can be monthly or as often as weekly. We are also looking for religious volunteers who would be interested in coming in to visit residents and provide spiritual council as needed. 

Accompanying individuals to family court and providing emotional support and information. These shifts are available during business hours. Court appearances might be in person or virtual.

​Our volunteers fill a vital role at Safe Harbors, providing support and assistance to victims via the 24-hour agency crisis hotline during overnight, weekend, and holiday hours. This includes listening, making appropriate referrals, and providing crisis intervention, support and assistance to victims as they move through the legal and/or medical process.

Roanchar Ranch Draft Horse Rescue is in need of sponsor coordinators. The role includes:

OMBUDSMAN: A trained volunteer who is NYS certified as an independent advocate for residents of long-term care communities and their families. Ombudsmen can help with resident's care and rights, personal concerns, financial concerns, administrative policies in nursing and adult homes, resident/staff misunderstandings, suspected neglect, mistreatment or abuse. Complete training and support is given to all volunteers.

Assignments are available throughout Monroe, Livingston, Ontario, Genesee, Wyoming, Seneca, Wayne and Yates Counties.

Families who are experiencing homelessness meet at our Day Center on Wednesdays (and occasionally other days) during school hours. We are seeking volunteers who can help supervise children in our common space while the moms attend classes and meetings. Supervision can include playtime, reading to children, making and serving lunch, and keeping an eye on them while they nap. There will always be two or more volunteers working together. Staff and parents will be on site and available as needed to assist. A 90 minute online orientation is required.

Family Promise provides emergency housing for up to eight families throughout the county. We frequently need to pick up and deliver furniture and other household belongings as we help families move into their new apartments. We own a trailer, but not a vehicle that can pull it! We're looking for folks with strong backs who can tow a trailer and/or help carry furniture!

Each year Bristol Valley Theater employs 35-40 out of area professional theater makers to come to our beautiful region to work for the summer and in return for their hard work, the organization houses them in and around Naples. With that comes a need to supply bedding for the staff and this year we are asking to replace our old bedding that needs to be retired. The organization is asking for twin and full sized bedding and sheet sets, and pillows for our incredible summer staff. 

We are a not for profit that looks like a second hand store but we are more than that. We are a place other not for profits can consign items to make up funds out to get items for free or at a discounted price. We also sell to the public and have local artists and community members that sell items.

We strive to keep anything we can out of the landfill and we fix it upcycle what we can, and encourage customers to do the same of many objects in the store. 

We need your help writing grants because we are not good at it or don't know what we are doing. We have been around for 10 years through pure determination and many many volunteers. Please help us continue. Our rent has tripled and we have other expenses we would like to maintain.

Free items for community members. 

Tapestry Gift Shop serves residents, staff, and visitors to Monroe Community Hospital, offering a wide range of merchandise as well as friendly customer service! This is a fast-paced environment, ideal for someone with previous retail experience. Gift Shop Associates greet and assist customers, run the register, and keep the shop stocked and organized. The Shop is open 11:30 to 3:30, so your shift will be approximately 11:15 to 3:45. We encourage volunteers to commit to one regular shift per week; shifts are currently open on Friday and Sunday.  

Inspired by Accelerator member organization, Color Brighton Green, Color Your Community Green (CYCG) aims to connect and organize concerned individuals, by municipality or neighborhood, to form a network of climate-focused citizen action teams that will:

To achieve these goals, the ten active CYCG teams perform various activities ranging from planting trees, organizing litter pick-ups, educating community members on skills like composting or creating healthy yards, and learning about and advocating for local climate solutions to board members and government officials.

The Center for Youth Services is looking for adult volunteers, 21 and older, to assist the evening triage counselor with call on our hotline, just twice a month. 6pm-9pm Monday through Friday evenings at 905 Monroe Ave. Orientation and training is provided. The volunteer must pass a NYS background check with NO registered CPS cases, and provide 3 references.  The Center will do the background check.

Volunteers Needed to Help Ontario County Seniors

Home Delivered Meals:  Mileage reimbursement (currently IRS Rate:  $.625/mile)

                                   Approximately 1-1.5 per week

                                   Delivery hours between 10:45-1PM and 3:30-5PM in Clifton Springs

Drivers for Ontario County Residents to Medical Appointments, in county and out of county:  Mileage reimbursement also.

One hour a week can make a huge difference in the lives of older adults in the our community.

Youth mentor will support urban youth ages 10-21, during out of school time, providing youth with homework help, facilitate group activities and chaperone for field trips. Monday to Friday from 3 to 5pm

Drivers needed!  Our participants frequently need help with rides to the grocery store, or their doctors appointments etc.  We are looking for a friendly, responsible, reliable drivers.

The YWCA can provide the vehicles.  We have 2 vans and the driver would need to pass our certification exam.     

Donations are needed for the Homeless!!!

We are collecting donations of travel sized items for distribution to the homeless by our Outreach Teams conducting the PIT!

St. Peter's kitchen is in need of volunteers do a variety of lunch prep such as cutting fruits and vegetables, making sandwiches, packing lunch bags, rolling silverware or serving lunch.  We have tasks that you can come for just a couple of hours between 9 -11 and sit work at a table or 9 - 1:30 and be a part of the team that includes serving grab & go meals to the community.  Come once a month or once a week, what may fit your schedule. St. Peter's Kitchen is opened Monday - Friday.

Seeking a volunteer(s) to help create content (videos, photography, posts, blogs) for social media postings to share the good work of Kirkhaven with the community.

We are looking for individuals that would like to volunteer at the Pines of Peace Comfort Care Home.  These volunteers need not have previous experience.  The concept of the Pines of Peace is 'neighbors helping neighbors' during the final days of a person's life journey.  We provide a home-like atmosphere where a person can live out their last days well cared for and in peace.  We will train you in all aspects of caring for someone.  We will match your interests to our needs to create an experience that will be fulfilling to you.  Call our office to find out more about it and to set up a tour of our home.  It may just be the experience of giving back you are looking for!  And if fund raising is more up your alley, we can always use volunteers to plan for our many events throughout the year!

Assist the elders at Kirkhaven by transporting wheelchairs and guiding elders to and from Sunday Services from 1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Kirkhaven has up to four services on Sundays for our seniors and we appreciate the support of our transportation guides. 

Seniors have so much to offer! Spend some time one-on-one visiting with an elder at Kirkhaven. Share interestes, hobbies, stories and just be a friend to a senior. 

Kirkhaven has special events every week for the senior residents. Whether it is a rousing game of Bingo, digging in the garden or a strawberry social, Kirkhaven needs volunteers to assist in transporting elders in wheelchairs and providing a steady hand for others so that they can enjoy the activity.

Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program need senior volunteers to drive other seniors to medical appointments and/or prescription pick ups.  All mileage driven for this purpose is fully reimbursed at the annual federal rate on a monthly basis.  Drivers are given advanced notice of the need, generally two weeks or more, and are able to accept or decline any ride opportunities at their own discretion.  Wayne County Action Program follows and enforces safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 protocols and drivers are insured by the agency for their vehicle during volunteer transportation to and from medical appointments.

Looking for good driver and the ability to lift 35 lbs. to go to our donating stores and pick up donated product for our program.  Deliveries are M, T, W & F, 8:30-10:30 Come join the team as regular driver one day or back up, as needed. We have our own van for pick up.

Under the direction of Hospice and VNA orders our staff provides care for our residents. The Resident Care Volunteer works similarly to a CNA, Certified Nurses Aid. We will train the volunteer and will only expect them to complete tasks they are comfortable with. Volunteers can work independently or sign up with one of our more experienced volunteers

The digital literacy navigator will spend time in their local library system volunteering to help members of their community better understand and use computer based programs. The digital literacy navigator will attend an orientation that prepares them with the necessary information to be successful in delivering services effectively in their community based setting. Our navigators must have proficient skills in using computer and hand held devices. Tasks may include but not limited to; creating an email, online job search, resume/cover letter writing, operating desk top and hand held devices, using a variety of software, navigating the internet. Our volunteers are asked to make the 1-3-6 commitment, volunteer 1 time per week at a 3 hour shift for a minimum of 6 months. We work to accommodate the location, date and time of your shifts giving you control over your schedule and what works best for you. We are currently looking to staff libraries in Livingston and Wyoming Counties. Our current library partners in Livingston County include; Avon Free Library, Dansville Public Library, Livonia Public Library, Mt. Morris Public Library and Wadsworth Library. Our current library partners in Wyoming County include; Cordelia A. Greene Library, Perry Public Library, Stevens Memorial Community Library and Warsaw Public Library. This initiative has been developed to work on closing the digital divide by allowing access to computer/internet services and critical knowledge of the technological age we live in, to all persons in our communities. 

Appointed by family court judges, CASA advocates typically handle one case at a time until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. Other people come and go in the child’s life, but their CASA  provides a constant presence the child needs to thrive and move on with their life.

Advocates start by getting to know everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others what the child needs and how they are doing while progressing towards a safe permanent home.

You do not have to be a lawyer or social worker to be an advocate. We welcome people from all walks of life. We are simply looking for people who care about children and have common sense. As a volunteer, you will be thoroughly trained and well supported by our staff to help you through each case.

You must pass a background check, participate in a 33-hour pre-service training course and agree to stay with a case until it is closed (a year and a half on average). Read more about the requirements and role of being a CASA advocate.

We are looking for literacy coaches for our after school program that serves new Americans developing their literacy skills (Somali, Nepali, Hispanic populations). The after school programs runs from 3-5pm (2 hour shifts).

Looking for food servers and drivers to help with our food services for patrons. 

Monday thru Saturday, shifts between 12-5pm - flexible durations between those times.

Unload food tucks, set up tables we use to serve the food, serve patrons (indoor and outdoor when weather gets nice)

Shepherd Home is seeking a volunteer with Grant writing experience to aid in identifying and applying for Grant assistance.  

Our Resident Care volunteers provide personal care to our residents and extend support and hospitality to the residents’ families and friends.
Prospective volunteers have the opportunity to shadow our nurse, and other volunteers to acquaint themselves with the care given at Shepherd Home.

Requirements:  All you need is a compassionate heart and a drive to help those who are terminal to live their best life.  We will teach you the rest.

The Crisis Nursery and Owen's House, programs of the Center for Youth, are looking for responsible volunteers, 16yrs and older, to volunteer for a 4 hour shift once a week or once every two weeks in a child care setting.

The Crisis Nurseries care for babies, toddlers and children up to age 14 when the families are in an emergency/crisis situation. All volunteers must pass a background check, and complete the necessary paperwork prior to volunteering. Orientation and training is provided. 

Shifts are generally 8am-noon, noon to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm. Sign ups are done online with lots of flexibility to fit YOUR schedule. We are looking for volunteers for all shifts. This is perfect for highschool students, college students, retirees and anyone who loves children.

Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for senior volunteers willing to lead courses in Powerful Tools for Caregivers.  This can be done entirely remotely from your own home.  If you do not have a computer that can use Zoom Meetings, technology can be provided to you free of charge to allow you to run Zoom Meetings on one of Wayne CAP's devices with a camera and microphone.  All of the training will be provided to you online as well, and all materials and support that you will need to provide the course.  Our courses are run by teams of two volunteers, so you will always have someone there to help you either run the technology side or deliver the information that is all scripted and will be provided to you.  All you need is a willingness to help those caregiving for adults or children in their lives, and Wayne CAP will provide the rest. 

The courses last 6 weeks with one 1.5-2.5 hour course per week, and you will be able to set the schedule as it will work best for you and your co-leader.  Learn new skills, learn about new tools that will be useful to you in your own life as well as those caregivers you serve, and meet new people!

You will be able to set the schedule as it will work best for you and your co-leader, and shifting the schedule as needed is not a problem.  This course takes several months to complete because the focus is on making small changes to diet and activity in order to effectively make changes to one's lifestyle gradually over time. 

Learn new skills, learn about new tools that will be useful to you in your own life as well as those seniors you serve, and meet new people!  

Responsible and reliable dishwashers needed, Monday - Friday, 9:30 - 1:30.  Washing mostly pots and pans, cutting boards, and serving items. You can come in once a week or once monthly.
