Needs From: Volunteer United

Construction and landscaping volunteers are essential to our mission of building homes, communities, and hope. No experience needed. Our construction team are professionals who will walk you through your tasks. We work year-round if conditions are safe. Close-toed shoes are required. We recommend wearing hard-soled shoes, work gloves, and dressing in layers. A hat or sunscreen is recommended in hot weather. Please do not wear sandals, flip flops, halter tops, or jewelry. We provide all tools and safety equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own. There will be a portable toilet on-site. On street parking is available on surrounding neighborhood streets. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old.

Washing classroom exterior windows to help bring in more natural light for the children and Filling raised flower beds with soil Planting flowers and/or plants in two raised beds and two large outdoor pots This project will directly support our early childhood program by creating a welcoming, clean, and vibrant outdoor environment for the children and families we serve. Outdoor spaces are an important part of our daily curriculum. We greatly appreciate the time and energy of our volunteers and look forward to working together to enhance our space!

Clean up our outdoor area, rake, weeding, and mulch. Dress appropriately for outdoor work environment and for weather . We will be working rain or shine. We will supply tools but if you can bring rakes, gloves, shovels,  etc. Wheelbarrows. We will be moving mulch and compost. Help Genesee Country Village & Museum in Mumford get ready for our 2026 season with projects including (but not limited to):

Following service projects, volunteers will be offered picnic-style lunch. Please communicate any dietary restrictions as soon as possible. Volunteers are welcome to stay and explore the Museum after lunch!

We will need some help painting/staining our wooden fences and guardrails

We need some help refreshening up our mulch beds throughout the property

We need some help turning over the soil and updating our Schottland family garden

We have several flower beds that will need a refresh after the long hard winter months

We need some help removing weeds and cleaning up the edges of our sidewalks

Begin Again Horse Rescue is an equine rescue that houses approximately 16 equines on-site.  The equines are all rescues or owner surrenders and are under evaluation and care for rehabilitation and rehoming.  The United Day of Caring volunteers are key to helping spruce up the rescue.  Some key focus areas include painting fences/barn doors, weeding and gardening around the house on the property, cleaning the fence line, and general yard work.  Maintaining the rescue for the safety of the equines and the volunteers is an important focus.   Both individuals and teams are welcome.  BAHR will provide lunch for the volunteers.  Thank you for considering and choosing BAHR for the 2026 United Day of Caring volunteering.

We'll be cutting down scrub bushes and trees, clearing weeds and rocks, and leveling the ground.

Assisting with Projects at the Lyons Youth Baseball and Softball Complex

Projects may include painting/sealing porches or other outdoor areas on our campus, spreading mulch, or weeding and planting flowers.  There is not an alternative plan if it rains.

Join us for a fun and rewarding day cleaning, raking, painting and planting flowers at St. Joseph's Park and Schiller Park in the NW quadrant of downtown Rochester. Our efforts will include beautifying the greenspace surrounding both parks, as well as inside the historic ruins of St. Joseph's Church. This Registered National Landmark has been converted into an urban oasis, complete with trees, benches and greenery. Help us restore and revitalize these wonderful spaces for the public to enjoy all season long. Thank You!

Looking for a team of volunteers willing to get dirty, remove old annuals to make room for new flower buds.  We are also looking to revive our flower/ food garden beds behind the school building.

Foodlink’s distributes millions of pounds of donated food every year to communities in need. Volunteers are needed to sort, inspect, and pack non-perishable food items before they are distributed. The physical intensity of the project is considered high and will include frequent walking, standing, and lifting up to 25-50lbs. 

Foodlink's Lexington Ave. Community Farm is a commercial growing center for our various nutrition education and food access programs. It also serves more than 90 refugee families who use the area to grow their own fresh produce. Volunteers are needed to help maintain the farm by completing various general farm maintenance tasks that include, but are not limited to: 

Physical Intensity: High. Frequent walking, standing, bending and lifting(tools, pallets, or other items) anywhere between to 20-70lbs. 

What to Bring/Wear: Your Energy! Please also wear sneakers and weather-appropriate clothing you do not mind getting dirty. Sunscreen and hats are encouraged. Volunteers should also reframe from wearing cologne and perfume(it attracts bees). Bring you own water bottle. Water and Lunch will be provided. Gardening tools are provided, but you are welcome to bring your own.

Piercings and open wounds should be covered at all times. It is also encouraged that you bring a light sweater/jacket and specifically items you do not mind getting dirty. Water bottles and lunch will be provided.

We need help unpacking our spring coach material bins, cleaning out the bins, and re-organizing and inventory of returned supplies to get ready for our next season!

The site has all Deaf residents with a mix of hearing and Deaf staff; ASL skills encouraged but not required. As long as you are friendly and willing to try to communicate then you are welcome!

The Hinchey Homestead hosts events and tours throughout the Spring, Summer and Fall and our yard and gardens need some cleaning up.  We are looking for volunteers to help with weeding the gardens, trimming hedges, and clearing out underneath our fence.  

We will be sprucing up the flower beds with weeding, mulching and planting as well as washing windows and siding.

Cemetery clean up.  Raking leaves, filling urns with top soil, trimming around grave stones, cleaning out the Chapel, etc.

     This year for Day of Caring we need volunteers to plant our Italian Garden, our largest and grandest on Sonnenberg grounds. We will also need volunteers for planting our Rose Garden, with the arrival of over 200 new rose plants this year! Water will be provided. 

     We also need help with some light housekeeping at the mansion to show off its beauty to our guests.

Help to beautify the outdoor space at Volunteers of America's Family Shelter by pulling weeds, trimming bushes, putting down mulch and planting flowers.  Volunteers should wear work/gardening clothes and bring gardening gloves if they have them.  This project will still occur if there is light rain, but will be cancelled if there are thunderstorms.

The Lehigh Valley Trail from East River Road to the Greenway trail has become partially overgrown which makes mowing difficulty.   Volunteers will remove brush and limbs which are overhanging the trail.  Tools will be provided and volunteers are encouraged to bring loping sheers and pruning saws. 

Long pants, long sleeves, gloves and safety goggles are encouraged.

Cemetery Plaza Cleanup at the Pathway of Life Garden | May 21, 2026

Thank you for lending a hand (or a rake!) to help refresh the Pathway of Life Garden at Grandview Cemetery in Batavia. This brick plaza is a special place for remembrance and reflection, and with a little TLC, we’ll help it look peaceful, polished, and cared for.

Here’s what we’ll be tackling together:

Rain or shine the need for weeding in our flower and vegetables gardens follow by spreading mulch in both areas. Close toe footwear is mandatory, continental breakfast and lunch will be served. and rain ponchos provided in case it rains.

The Holland Land Office Museum is in need of volunteers to help clean up the grounds of the museum in the spring. This includes picking up limbs and debris, raking leaves, cleaning and weeding flower beds.

Come spend some time in the outdoors helping us steward our dedication and sensory gardens carefully cultivated by the gardening club. 

Assistance with outdoor clean up, rain or shine. Removing old mulch and spreading new mulch on playground and parking lot islands. Weeding out flower beds, planting new flowers, community garden prep.

Light Hill has an extensive garden and grounds for families and residents to enjoy - Help us with our Spring Clean Up! Our wooded walking trail needs clearing, mulching and benches moved along the path. Our outdoor planters need new soil and arrangement of annual flowers. Our garden beds and yard may need some weed pulling, stick clearing and cutting back of some brush. We'll provide materials, hand tools and power tools. Make sure you dress for the outdoors and bring work gloves & closed toed shoes!

Parking: Carpool if possible. Please park in lower parking area.

Lunch: Casa Italiana - subs or salads. We'll collect orders that morning!

Join us for a day of gardening at one of Rochester's most iconic landmarks! We will be beautifying our gardens by planting new flowers and adding fresh soil. Lunch and refreshments will be provided. 

Remember to wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and dress casually for the occasion.

*If there is inclement weather, projects will take place in our theatres. 

Thank you for considering CCE Monroe for your volunteer opportunity on Day of Caring!  Every year, our team works alongside your team to beautify our grounds for public education and preparation for a great growing season. Our site boasts a small 1/2-acre farm and several flower gardens.  Support is always needed to organize, mulch, create new gardening spaces, and more. We may even have some small "building" projects.  Grab your garden or work gloves, solid footwear, and sunscreen.  Only pouring rain or lighting will prevent us from digging in!  Have small hand tools....feel free to bring them along just in case.  Lunch will be served; please indicate if there are any food allergies.

Camp Cory's Day Camp area features a garden area where campers can be exposed to growing, maintaining, and harvesting different vegetables throughout the summer. The garden area is in current need of being prepped for the season through general light maintenance on the raised beds, tightening fencing, and incorporating soil amenities. 

Help us get ready for the upcoming camp season. We have a variety of things that need to get done before we open this season. There is yard work from raking leaves, mulch laying, stick clean up to painting and cleaning, basic construction, and small repairs.
