We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity. 

Register on our website to get started. If it's your first time signing up with Team LFL, you will be prompted to create an account in our volunteer hub. Once you sign up, you will get access to tips & resources that you review independently online. Our Little Free Library staff can answer your questions by email. You can share books whenever it works for you.  

This is a great opportunity for solo volunteers looking for something flexible to fit their schedule, or for parents looking for a volunteer activity they can do with kids. 

Purpose: By keeping Little Free Libraries full of books, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access. 

Responsibilities:

Time required: You set your own schedule. It could be a one-time project or a regular book distribution schedule.

The TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury)/ Day Program at Happiness House is having a Summer Party and needs the help of a few volunteers. They will have games, special activities and food. Please help with grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, helping serve food to program participants,  and set-up/clean-up. 

Inspiring Forces II is seeking dedicated and organized volunteer Program Coordinators to lead and oversee our after-school "Pathways 2 Greatness" initiative. Operating on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 PM to 6:30 PM Starting 6/30/2026 - 8/14/2026 at our State Street location, this program serves local youth aged 8 to 18. As a Program Coordinator, you will manage daily activities, support youth mentors, and ensure the successful delivery of our core curriculum blocks, which focus on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL), self-awareness, financial literacy, and public speaking. This is a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring human services professional, social work student, or community leader looking to gain hands-on program management experience while directly cultivating the next generation of confident, self-aware leaders. Duties & Responsibilities:

Oversee the daily schedule and coordinate smooth transitions between workshop blocks.

Inspiring Forces II is seeking energetic, compassionate, and reliable volunteers to serve as After-School Youth Mentors and Program Assistants for our "Pathways 2 Greatness" initiative. Operating out of our State Street suite, this program provides a safe, empowering space for Rochester youth aged 13 to 18. Join Inspiring Forces II for our annual "Back to School Community Bash" on Saturday, August 22, 2026, at the Troup Street Playground! This high-energy community event is designed to equip local students with the essential supplies, backpacks, and resources they need to start the new school year confident and ready to succeed. We need an enthusiastic team of volunteers to help us bring this celebration to life. Volunteers will assist with setting up the playground space, greeting families, managing supply distribution stations, running youth activities/games, and cleaning up post-event. This is a fun, fast-paced, and deeply rewarding opportunity perfect for individuals, civic groups, or corporate teams looking to make a direct impact on Rochester families!

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with event setup (tents, tables, organizing backpacks and school supplies).

Greet local families, manage registration/check-in, and provide directional support.

Distribute backpacks and school supplies efficiently at designated stations.

Oversee fun youth recreational games and activity areas on the playground.

Help break down equipment and ensure the playground area is left clean.

Requirements:

Join Inspiring Forces II for "Rochester's Hardest Mile," an exciting, high-energy community fitness competition and grassroots fundraiser taking place on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Padilla High School track field! This dynamic event features a timed, one-mile team relay race integrated with four intense functional fitness stations (medicine ball lifts, burpees, lunges, and fireman's carries). We need an energetic team of track-side volunteers to help us bring this multi-generational wellness event to life! Volunteers will assist with participant check-in, hydration stations, course direction, scorekeeping, and cheering on our athletes. All event proceeds directly support our local youth empowerment and mentorship initiatives. Come be a part of Rochester's most inspiring fitness challenge!

Duties & Responsibilities:

Athlete Check-In & Registration: Greet participants, distribute event t-shirts, and hand out race bibs.

Course & Station Judges: Help monitor fitness stations (burpees, lunges, etc.) to ensure safety and track team repetitions.

Timing & Scorekeeping: Assist in tracking team lap times and recording final race scores.

Hydration Stations: Hand out water and sports drinks to competitors along the track course.

Setup & Breakdown: Assist with arranging fitness equipment, banners, and tents before and after the event.

Inspiring Forces II is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and reliable Volunteer Office Assistant to help support our daily administrative operations. Operating out of our State Street suite, our nonprofit team works hard to deliver impactful youth mentorship and community wellness events across Rochester. As an Office Assistant, you will play a vital role behind the scenes by keeping our operations running smoothly. Duties include digital filing, helping prepare materials for our after-school workshops, tracking inventory for community giveaways, and assisting with light data entry. This is a fantastic, low-stress opportunity for someone looking to give back, gain office experience, or support a local grassroots organization.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Assist with basic data entry, digital organizing, and filing.

Help prepare student packets and workshop materials for our youth programs.

Sort and organize inventory for upcoming events (supplies, apparel, marketing materials).

Assist with preparing occasional mailings or sorting incoming organizational documents.

Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming office workspace.

Calling all bookworms! Book Lovers Day is August 9, and we’ve got a fun way for you to celebrate by spreading the joy of reading, one beloved book at a time.

Celebrate Book Lovers Day by sharing a book you love in a Little Free Library near you. You’ll be expanding book access by sharing your favorite reads.

It’s easy to participate:

This is a great activity for families, friends, or book clubs to do together. 

Impact: Celebrate your love of reading while expanding book access in your community.

Time Required: Flexible. Share one book, or share many! Please share your book(s) anytime on Saturday, August 9.

Monroe Community Hospital needs YOU to help transport residents in wheelchairs to on-site activities, events and programs!  We are seeking to build a transport team of committed volunteers who have weekday availability, the desire to help others, and enjoy meeting new people.  By making it possible for residents to participate and engage, Transport volunteers have a tremendous, positive impact.  Plus it’s also a great way to “get your steps in” throughout our beautiful facility! Days and times vary, and your schedule can be flexible.

Do you love "thrifting," reusing, and recycling? If so, volunteering at the MCH Thrift Shop is a great way to enjoy our inventory of unique, gently-used clothing, accessories, and household items, as well as provide a valuable service to MCH residents, staff and visitors! As a Sales Associate, you will provide friendly customer service, cashier, and keep the shop tidy and organized. The Shop is open 11:30 to 3:30, so your shift will be approximately 11:15 to 3:45, with a half-hour lunch break. We currently need volunteers for Fridays. See you at the Thrift Shop!

Tapestry Gift Shop serves residents, staff, and visitors to Monroe Community Hospital, offering a wide range of merchandise as well as friendly customer service! This is a fast-paced environment, ideal for someone with previous retail experience. Gift Shop Associates greet and assist customers, run the register, and keep the shop stocked and organized. The Shop is open 7 days a week, 11:30 to 3:30, so your shift will be approximately 11:15 to 3:45. We are currently looking for volunteers with flexible availability, to help cover open shifts.

Supporting residents with a friendly visit may be one of the most rewarding volunteer roles at Monroe Community Hospital!  Visitors provide friendly conversation, interaction, and companionship; they also accompany residents to recreation programs and activities, or to places of interest within the MCH Campus. Volunteers are encouraged to make a weekly commitment, choosing a day and time that works for them.

Help needed transporting residents in wheelchairs to various activities, beauty salon appointments and worship services within the Home. Friendly visiting encouraged during transport.

Bring your dog or cat and visit with our wonderful residents!

The Gift Shop Associate greets, assists and cashes out customers on the cash register (Square device). Retail experience is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.

HomeCare & Hospice is seeking Patient and Bereavement Volunteers in Genesee, Wyoming, Allegany, and Cattaraugus Counties who are willing to share their time, compassion, and life experience with hospice patients and their families.

Many hospice patients choose to spend their final months in the comfort of home, surrounded by loved ones. Alongside the care provided by our medical, aide, spiritual, and social work teams, volunteers offer something uniquely meaningful—companionship, comfort, and human connection during an important stage of life.

PATIENT VOLUNTEERS
Patient Volunteers provide companionship and support to hospice patients in their homes, hospitals, or nursing facilities.

As a Patient Volunteer, you may:
-Provide Respite for Caregivers
Spend time with patients so caregivers can take a short break with peace of mind.
-Offer Companionship
Share conversations, listen to stories, read aloud, play games, or simply offer a comforting presence.
-Support Meaningful Activities
Assist with memory-sharing projects such as scrapbooks, letters to loved ones, music, or creative bedside activities.

Help with light activities such as puzzles or small tasks that brighten the day.

BEREAVEMENT VOLUNTEERS
Bereavement Volunteers support families as they navigate the grief process following the loss of a loved one.

Because Patient, Bereavement, and Office Volunteers may work directly with patients or patient information, volunteers complete the same application and training process as hospice employees. This includes an annual physical, MMR vaccination, and initial PPD test, all provided at no cost. We also work with volunteers to accommodate individual schedules and availability.

HomeCare & Hospice is seeking Office Volunteers to support our Arcade and Wellsville offices. If you enjoy staying organized, helping others, and being part of a supportive team, this is a meaningful way to contribute to compassionate care in our community.

While our clinical staff works directly with patients and families, our office volunteers play a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly behind the scenes.

As an Office Volunteer, you may:

We need volunteers to staff the Lilac Library for a few hours a week. Volunteers will greet visitors and work on library-related projects including: checking in/out library books, re-shelving books, folding clothes for the clothing closet, organizing, and general office work. Volunteers must have a commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community as well as a commitment to ending racism.

We need volunteers to staff the Lilac Library for a few hours a week. Volunteers will greet visitors and work on library-related projects including: checking in/out library books, re-shelving books, folding clothes for the clothing closet, organizing, and general office work. Volunteers must have a commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community as well as a commitment to ending racism.

·         Assist with distribution of food boxes to registered recipients

·         Lifting of food and food boxes (up to approximately 30 pounds)

·         Document food boxes are received by recipients

·         Remain on site until all food boxes are picked up

·         Maintain up-to-date food distribution list (ensure new clients are added and those no longer in need are removed from the list)

·         May involve pick up of food from Food Link distribution site (currently located at Town of Canandaigua Highway Department, Route 5 & 20, Canandaigua) and transport food to Autumn Grove Apartments

Come help us in the Community Growers Garden at The Arc Ontario's Eberhardt Center. No experience, skills, or tools required. Learn how to grow your own food, led by a Master Gardener. 

The Community Growers Garden was established in 2025 thanks to a grant through NYS Agriculture and Markets. Program participants and community volunteers worked hand in hand to transform a patch of grass into a food forest.

During the Summer of 2026, our garden will expand to include fruits, and a larger variety of flowers to stock our farm stand with beautiful bouquets made by our program horticulturists.

Looking for peoples to assist in stocking shelves, packaging items, assist in garden work. Hours are flexible- must be scheduled in advance. Tuesdays- Saturdays. Closed on Sundays and Mondays

We are looking for volunteers on pantry days. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8:45am-1pm. VArious duties include assisting our patrons to shop for their groceries in our pantry. Stocking shelves, packaging various items, putting away deliveries.

Victor Hiking Trails (VHT) is looking for interested artists to design and paint a mural on the Thruway underpass in Fishers, NY.

The design space is 10 feet tall and up to 140 feet in length.  The design may be one large mural or a series of murals.

The design should be culturally and historically relevant to the Victor and/or Fishers area.

This project is appropriate for art clubs or an individual artist.

A mural of railroad history is painted on one side of the underpass. 

Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program need senior volunteers to drive other seniors to medical appointments and/or prescription pick ups.  All mileage driven for this purpose is fully reimbursed at the annual federal rate on a monthly basis.  Drivers are given advanced notice of the need, generally two weeks or more, and are able to accept or decline any ride opportunities at their own discretion.  Wayne County Action Program follows and enforces safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 protocols and drivers are insured by the agency for their vehicle during volunteer transportation to and from medical appointments.

Volunteer Phone Counselors provide confidential, supportive listening and crisis intervention services to youth in need. This role involves answering hotline calls, connecting callers to appropriate resources in a safe and respectful manner. 

Key Responsibilities: 

Answer incoming calls from youth seeking support  

Provide active listening, empathy, and nonjudgmental responses  

Assess caller needs and help identify appropriate resources or next steps  

Maintain confidentiality and follow all organizational policies and procedures

It's a small job. We occasionally get items that are not usable and must be broken down to be recycled and then we turn the metal in for money for the organization. We need someone that can identify metals and doesn't mind getting their hands dirty.

Homesteads for Hope, an inclusive community farm in Rochester, NY, is seeking Corporate Volunteer Groups on Wednesdays throughout the season!

An Alzheimer’s and Dementia Educator plays a key role in raising awareness and providing education about Alzheimer's disease, dementia, and brain health. This will involve delivering presentations, workshops, and educational sessions to various groups, including caregivers, families, and people living with dementia, to increase understanding of dementia and promote early detection, prevention strategies, and caregiving support.

YWCA has many clients in need of gift cards to their local grocery stores. As SNAP restrictions expand, we need your support for the women and families we serve.

This is a need for anyone interested in going around to Rochester area businesses and handing out flyers for Rochester Rainbow Union.  This includes being a representative for RRU and talking with anyone who has questions about the organization and the Lilac Library. The hours are variable.

We need volunteers to staff the Lilac Library for a few hours a week. Volunteers will greet visitors and work on library-related projects including: checking in/out library books, re-shelving books, folding clothes for the clothing closet, organizing, and general office work. Volunteers must have a commitment to serving the LGBTQIA+ community as well as a commitment to ending racism.

As part of our mission to activate public spaces downtown, we are looking for individuals who would like to donate their time to play an instrument for an hour or three at a downtown park.

This initiative is a way to bring community together and engage with others, while energizing a park with activity and fun. Young, old or in-between are invited to participate. You pick the day and the time... even an hour is welcome, but 2-4 hours is preferred.

You don't need to be "world-class"... as long as you love playing you're exactly who we want! Bring a friend or two along too!

Ideal instruments include guitar (electric or acoustic), fiddle, violin (or any string instrument), saxophone, harmonica, bagpipes, or keyboard.

Help us beautify downtown Rochester by contributing flowers and/or flower planters. Especially of interest are native perennials, which we are strategically planting throughout downtown to help support bird, insect and pollinator populations. Annuals are also always appreciated, as are any large flower planters that we place on the sidewalks in underserved areas of the center city. Thank you!

The Crisis Nursery and Owen's House, programs of the Center for Youth, are looking for responsible volunteers, 16yrs and older, to volunteer for a 4 hour shift once a week or once every two weeks in a child care setting.

The Crisis Nurseries care for babies, toddlers and children up to age 14 when the families are in an emergency/crisis situation. All volunteers must pass a background check, and complete the necessary paperwork prior to volunteering. Orientation and training is provided. 

Shifts are generally 8am-12p, 12 to 4pm, 4pm to 8pm. Signups ups are done online with lots of flexibility to fit YOUR schedule. We are looking for volunteers for all shifts. This is perfect for high school students (16 and older) college students, retirees and anyone who loves children.

YWCA is seeking diaper donations to support families residing in our emergency and supportive housing programs. Many of the mothers we serve are working hard to rebuild their lives after experiencing domestic violence, homelessness, or economic hardship. The cost of diapers places a significant financial strain on already limited budgets.

Access to an adequate supply of diapers is essential for the health, dignity, and stability of both infants and parents. Without enough diapers, families may struggle to attend work, school, or childcare programs.

Our Friendly Visitor Program connects volunteers with older adults who may be at risk for isolation.  With routine visits, our clients are given the gift of socialization, friendship and peace of mind.

Our Telephone Reassurance program aims to connect volunteers to older adults through routine phone contact to reduce isolation and ensure health and safety.

Volunteers provide Shopping Assistance to older adults who are challenged with leaving the home. The older adult provides a shopping list and payment and the volunteer shops for them and delivers the items.

We have a beautiful trail around our property that is open to all residents, visitors and community members to use. Over years, it has become overgrown with grass and weeds, and the once graveled path is now undefined and has become uneven which causes a risk to our residents and visitors. We would love to restore the trail so our residents and community members can safety enjoy the trail again.

The Community Hygiene Bank is looking for donations of sensitive toothpaste, Dove sensitive skin soap, and sensitive body lotion for our next couple of distributions. In addition to these sensitive items, we could also use Dove regular bar soap and dryer sheets. 

Support the Pediatric Hospitality Cart at East River Road Pediatrics

Snack bag donations will help us launch and maintain a stationary hospitality cart for families visiting the Developmental & Behavioral Pediatrics, Pediatric Behavioral Health and Wellness, and Pediatric Neurology clinics at UR Medicine.

This cart will offer free snack bags to children and their caregivers during clinic visits—providing comfort and relief during what can be long and stressful days. East River Road Pediatrics sees approximately 30,000 visits each year, with many families traveling 30 miles or more to attend appointments. For these families, a simple, nutritious snack can offer a moment of ease and care.

To bring this program to life, we’re seeking 52 volunteer groups or individuals—one for each week of the year—to commit to donating 500 pre-packaged snack bags, just once, for a designated week in 2026. Engage your family, corporate team, or service group to gather snacks, assemble the packs, and deliver them to our House to be available for our team to bring to East River Road!

Each snack bag costs only $1.41 to assemble, but the impact is priceless. Just one snack bag can brighten a child’s day, ease a caregiver’s stress, and support a positive clinic experience. With your support, we will be able to operate the Pediatric Hospitality Cart Monday through Friday, four hours a day, providing consistent care and nourishment to families all year long.

Perform or coordinate the maintenance, repairs and general upkeep of American Red Cross facilities primarily the Clara Barton house in Dansville, NY.

DAT members commit to being on-call and available for defined shifts so that when an emergency occurs either a dispatcher or the Disaster Program Manager can reach them and dispatch them immediately. DAT members meet with family members to determine their immediate, disaster-caused needs.

There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts during disaster relief operations across the country to help provide immediate compassion and care. Help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies so they don’t have to face tough times alone.

 Safety First! Our need for volunteers is constant and our guidelines reflect the latest CDC safety recommendations and follow the national and local government laws.  

Indoor Golf – Wednesdays 5-6pm- This program is an inclusive indoor program meant to refine the skills of the participants as well as play some courses during the colder months. Volunteer would aid with setting up the program, placing the ball and tee for the participants, selecting the proper club and ensuring a fun environment!

Bowling- Tuesdays-5-6pm  Bowling program gives a chance to allow participants who don’t normally have the opportunity to play to have fun in a inclusive environment. The volunteer will help participants bowl safely and proper. With certain individuals guide their role down the ramp, as well as ball selection, and again most importantly to have fun!

Pickleball-Mondays-5:00-6:00- A new program that is looking for compassionate and committed volunteers who will help make the game of pickleball accessible and enjoyable for players of all abilities. As a volunteer you will assist with setting up adaptive equipment, provide encouragement and support, ensure safety and create an inclusive and welcoming environment. This takes place at Dinkers, located at 140 Despatch Drive #135 East Rochester, NY 14445
