We need your help to keep great books accessible to communities 24/7. Visit Little Free Libraries in your community to distribute books! 

We can suggest where to look for free or inexpensive books, or if you already have some, you can share those too. You can find book-sharing boxes near you using our world map or free mobile app. Volunteers over 18 anywhere in the U.S. where there are Little Free Libraries can register for this opportunity. 

Register on our website to get started. If it's your first time signing up with Team LFL, you will be prompted to create an account in our volunteer hub. Once you sign up, you will get access to tips & resources that you review independently online. Our Little Free Library staff can answer your questions by email. You can share books whenever it works for you.  

This is a great opportunity for solo volunteers looking for something flexible to fit their schedule, or for parents looking for a volunteer activity they can do with kids. 

Purpose: By keeping Little Free Libraries full of books, you are helping to build community, inspire readers, and expand book access.

Help us beautify downtown Rochester by contributing flowers and/or flower planters. Especially of interest are native perennials, which we are strategically planting throughout downtown to help support bird, insect and pollinator populations. We have a beautiful trail around our property that is open to all residents, visitors and community members to use. Over years, it has become overgrown with grass and weeds, and the once graveled path is now undefined and has become uneven which causes a risk to our residents and visitors. We would love to restore the trail so our residents and community members can safety enjoy the trail again.

The Community Hygiene Bank is looking for donations of sensitive toothpaste, Dove sensitive skin soap, and sensitive body lotion for our next couple of distributions. In addition to these sensitive items, we could also use Dove regular bar soap and dryer sheets.

Each newly diagnosed individual who participates in a Breast Cancer or Gynecologic Cancer 101 at the Breast Cancer Coalition is provided with a PALS Pak, which contains useful and comforting items for those who are going through surgery and treatment. Each item in the Pak has a purpose. For example, the Susan Love Breast Book provides critical information and gift cards are added for those times when meal preparation is impossible. Mints can burn delicate mouth tissue during chemotherapy, so ginger candies, which may help reduce nausea, are included instead.

We are in need of volunteer who would love to kick off our new crocheting program. The class will be held once or twice a month. One during the afternoon and one during the evening. We are looking for someone who can start with basic classes and move up to some challenging classes. Orientation of our building will be recommended before start date.

Kirkhaven is looking for religious volunteers of all faiths, who are interested in donating their time to lead services, play religious music or lead bible studies for our residents. These groups can be monthly or as often as weekly. We are also looking for religious volunteers who would be interested in coming in to visit residents and provide spiritual council as needed. 

Families who are experiencing homelessness meet at our Day Center on Wednesdays (and occasionally other days) during school hours. We are seeking volunteers who can help supervise children in our common space while the moms attend classes and meetings. Supervision can include playtime, reading to children, making and serving lunch, and keeping an eye on them while they nap. There will always be two or more volunteers working together. Staff and parents will be on site and available as needed to assist. A 90 minute online orientation is required.

We are looking for individuals that would like to volunteer at the Pines of Peace Comfort Care Home.  These volunteers need not have previous experience.  The concept of the Pines of Peace is 'neighbors helping neighbors' during the final days of a person's life journey.  We provide a home-like atmosphere where a person can live out their last days well cared for and in peace.  We will train you in all aspects of caring for someone.  We will match your interests to our needs to create an experience that will be fulfilling to you.  Call our office to find out more about it and to set up a tour of our home.  It may just be the experience of giving back you are looking for!  And if fund raising is more up your alley, we can always use volunteers to plan for our many events throughout the year!

Seniors have so much to offer! Spend some time one-on-one visiting with an elder at Kirkhaven. Share interestes, hobbies, stories and just be a friend to a senior. 

Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program need senior volunteers to drive other seniors to medical appointments and/or prescription pick ups.  All mileage driven for this purpose is fully reimbursed at the annual federal rate on a monthly basis.  Drivers are given advanced notice of the need, generally two weeks or more, and are able to accept or decline any ride opportunities at their own discretion.  Wayne County Action Program follows and enforces safety guidelines regarding COVID-19 protocols and drivers are insured by the agency for their vehicle during volunteer transportation to and from medical appointments.

Under the direction of Hospice and VNA orders our staff provides care for our residents. The Resident Care Volunteer works similarly to a CNA, Certified Nurses Aid. We will train the volunteer and will only expect them to complete tasks they are comfortable with. Volunteers can work independently or sign up with one of our more experienced volunteers

The digital literacy navigator will spend time in their local library system volunteering to help members of their community better understand and use computer based programs. The digital literacy navigator will attend an orientation that prepares them with the necessary information to be successful in delivering services effectively in their community based setting. Our navigators must have proficient skills in using computer and hand held devices. Tasks may include but not limited to; creating an email, online job search, resume/cover letter writing, operating desk top and hand held devices, using a variety of software, navigating the internet. Our volunteers are asked to make the 1-3-6 commitment, volunteer 1 time per week at a 3 hour shift for a minimum of 6 months. We work to accommodate the location, date and time of your shifts giving you control over your schedule and what works best for you. We are currently looking to staff libraries in Livingston and Wyoming Counties. Our current library partners in Livingston County include; Avon Free Library, Dansville Public Library, Livonia Public Library, Mt. Morris Public Library and Wadsworth Library. Our current library partners in Wyoming County include; Cordelia A. Greene Library, Perry Public Library, Stevens Memorial Community Library and Warsaw Public Library. This initiative has been developed to work on closing the digital divide by allowing access to computer/internet services and critical knowledge of the technological age we live in, to all persons in our communities.

Due to COVID-19, our needs have changed to reflect keeping our residents safe and healthy.  Donations may be dropped off Monday through friday, 8am-4pm.  Please call prior to dropping off (585) 368-2204. Wayne County Action Program, Inc.'s Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is looking for senior volunteers willing to lead courses in Powerful Tools for Caregivers.  This can be done entirely remotely from your own home.  If you do not have a computer that can use Zoom Meetings, technology can be provided to you free of charge to allow you to run Zoom Meetings on one of Wayne CAP's devices with a camera and microphone.  All of the training will be provided to you online as well, and all materials and support that you will need to provide the course.  Our courses are run by teams of two volunteers, so you will always have someone there to help you either run the technology side or deliver the information that is all scripted and will be provided to you.  All you need is a willingness to help those caregiving for adults or children in their lives, and Wayne CAP will provide the rest. 

The courses last 6 weeks with one 1.5-2.5 hour course per week, and you will be able to set the schedule as it will work best for you and your co-leader.  Learn new skills, learn about new tools that will be useful to you in your own life as well as those caregivers you serve, and meet new people!

The courses last 9 months with one hour courses per week for three months, once every two weeks for the second three months, and once a month for the last 3 months. You will be able to set the schedule as it will work best for you and your co-leader, and shifting the schedule as needed is not a problem.  This course takes several months to complete because the focus is on making small changes to diet and activity in order to effectively make changes to one's lifestyle gradually over time. 

Learn new skills, learn about new tools that will be useful to you in your own life as well as those seniors you serve, and meet new people!

Greet visitors at the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse, collect their admission and sell items from the gift shop. Training will be provided.

Available on Friday, Saturdays or Sundays when the lighthouse is open to the public. Hours are from 1-5pm each of these open days.

Provide guided tours for visitors of all ages on the grounds of the Charlotte Genesee Lighthouse and Keepers home.

Training is provided. Tours are offered every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 1-5pm and on weekdays by special appointment.

Need to be good with people and be able to climb the steps to the tower.

 One of the housing options the YWCA offers is  treatment program for women recovering from substance disorder. We provide apartments for women and their children.  We do not separate families which makes us unique in New York state. Our Stepping Stones program has a stellar reputation, and we have helped countless families on the road to recovery. 

We provide all the apartments with essential goods, including pots and pans, flatware, sheets, towels, etc.  We like to keep all the items provided in the individual apartments uniform, and we  find the best deals at Wal-Mart, so we are requesting Wal-Mart gift cards to be used specifically for this program. The YWCA is required to provide these essential goods to our residents, but the funding sources are drying up! Perhaps you would like to do this as a group fundraiser?  Or a competition? We would love that

Can you give a temporary home for a dog in need? One of our adoptable dogs would like to be your companion for a little while! Our shelter will set you up with food and equipment. Our dogs receive medical care from our shelter clinic. You provide a place to stay, daily care and exercise, and maybe some treats? We work around your schedule. The dogs are promoted for adoption through our website and social media.  Many dogs have found homes quickly after a brief stay in a foster home. This is a great way for folks who can't have a "permanent" pet to help a dog in need.
