Volunteer: Parenting Village Advisory Board- Finance Chair

Parenting Village is seeking an individual from the Rochester area to join our Advisory Board as our Finance Chair.

A member of the Parenting Village Advisory Board is responsible for ensuring that Parenting Village fulfills its mission by planning for the future, monitoring current operations, and evaluating the organization.  A Board Member must also fulfill the fiduciary responsibilities of the board of directors and make decisions that protect the organization, the community it serves, and the public interest. 

Responsibilities

Attending monthly Board meetings; Serving on, and ideally chairing, at least one workgroup;  Assisting in raising funds as agreed upon by the Board; Attending and supporting programs, events, fundraising and volunteer recruitment; and Promoting Parenting Village’s mission and fulfilling the additional responsibilities outlined in the Board Member Position Description (see below).

Time Commitment

Minimum of 5-10 hours per month

Finance Chair-Position Description

The Finance Chair reports to the Board regarding the ongoing financial viability and stability of Parenting Village while monitoring Parenting Village’s financial information. The Finance Chair will have experience in preparing annual budgets that will support Parenting Village’s goals, as well as provide guidance, assistance and recommendations on Parenting Village’s financial decisions. The Finance chair is responsible for liaising with the CFO of Jewish Family Services in regards to Parenting Village’s finances and also serves on the Executive Committee with the Board President, Vice-President and Secretary.

The Development Chair will develop a strategic plan to raise funds to support the ongoing work of Parenting Village. The Development Chair works closely with the Finance Chair to identify funding needs. The Development Chair will have experience in grant writing and creative fundraising ideas, including but not limited to, through donations and fundraising events.

Volunteer: Social Media Community Manager

This volunteer opportunity requires 2-4 hours of volunteer time per month.

A social media community manager for The Nurture Family Network is responsible for the growth and maintenance of that community. In conjunction with the group admins, their purpose is to ensure that every member has a sense of belonging and ownership and that the community creates value for its members.

Tasks:

Content creation

One of the primary jobs of a social media manager is developing quality content and posting content at least 4-5x per week. 

 

Scheduling and planning

Weekly schedules, goals, themes, deadlines, and monthly and quarterly projections are really important in the role of a social media manager. Organization, direct communication, diligence, and staying on top of things are all a part of the volunteer role. This will occur in collaborating with other Nurture Volunteers/Network Admins. 

 

Developing visual content

While writing is generally one of the most important skills that a social media marketing specialist will have, the ability to develop (or curate with appropriate credit) visual content—like photographs or video—is a major plus. 

 

Engagement

Part of a social media manager’s role is engagement. This means engaging with individuals who comment and interact on your social media feed and relating conversation to what the community is all about. Engagement is what takes to grow a social media account or community. 

 

Nurture Workgroup Participation

The social media manager will attend monthly or bi/monthly Nurture Workgroup meetings.  These meetings are generally 1 hour in duration.

Volunteer: Nurture Volunteer-Peer Support

Nurture is a no-cost peer support program for families with babies up to one year old in the Rochester area. The full Nurture Program Description can be found on Parenting Village's website.  

In response to COVID-19, Nurture Volunteers are supporting families remotely until it is safe to resume in-home support.

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for volunteers who identify as an experienced parent or caregiver and whose child(ren) are older than 18 months.  Volunteers must be willing to participate in a Volunteer orientation and complete a background check.

Volunteers who are offering Remote Nurture Support may offer one or all of the following types of peer support:

Weekly check-ins and/or chats via telephone, video calls or text message Nurture volunteers may listen to the parent’s experiences of birth and the postpartum period, and offer compassionate understanding and peer support. Reading books on zoom with older siblings Grocery shopping/delivery* Assistance setting up a Meal Train and other virtual support tools to connect with family/friends Assistance with household management as it relates to parenting (schedules, meal planning, etc)

          Referrals to:

Parenting Village’s virtual Support Circles to connect with other parents Parenting Village’s virtual Connection Events to learn about local businesses and organizations, to connect with other parents and to engage in fun activities on your own or with your family. Private FB groups for ongoing support and connection Community resources
