Needs From: Volunteer United

Perform or coordinate the maintenance, repairs and general upkeep of American Red Cross facilities primarily the Clara Barton house in Dansville, NY.

The American Red Cross provides almost 40% of the blood and blood products used by hospitals in the area. Volunteer drivers are a crucial part of getting these products to where they are needed in a safe and timely manner. Drivers pick up from the blood drives and deliver it to the warehouse for testing and deliver blood products to hospitals throughout the community. Must have valid driver's license. Ability to lift 45 lbs. Able to complete required paperwork. We're especially looking for drivers looking to be on-call for STAT runs. Greet blood donors at community blood drives and help them sign in and monitor their well-being after they have donated. Volunteers will receive training and are asked to work 2 shifts per month. For more information or to complete a volunteer application go to www.redcross.org/volunteer

Natural and human-caused disasters occur every day, reminding us how vulnerable we can be. The American Red Cross takes action every day to serve people affected by disasters, rushing to the aid of a family, a neighborhood or an entire community.

Disaster Action Team (DAT) members respond locally to all disasters whenever they occur day or night. DAT members commit to being on-call and available for defined shifts so that when an emergency occurs either a dispatcher or the Disaster Program Manager can reach them and dispatch them immediately. DAT members meet with family members to determine their immediate, disaster-caused needs.

There is a special need for volunteers to support sheltering efforts during disaster relief operations across the country to help provide immediate compassion and care. Help comfort and support people who are forced from their homes due to fires, storms and other emergencies so they don’t have to face tough times alone.
